Default S550 Pinion flange C/V to 'U' joint swap

I need to convert my S550 C/V pinion flange to accept a Dana style U-joint (Dana type1350, 1330 or 1320) drive shaft. Anyone make such 34 spline Super 8.8 S550 strap flange???

Your S550 pinion has a flat-faced 4-bolt hole companion flange, to which the rear of the driveshaft bolts, is that correct? Shaft looks like this?
  • Find out hole dimensions of your companion flange, or of the shaft flange, compare them to a round companion flange joint which uses 1330 Spicer joints like on the rear of an Explorer (say, late '90s, early 2000s) driveshaft. They might just be a standardized pattern. Unless your job is a popular change, finding the part already made up may be impossible.

NO... 2015 & newer at the pinion end use a 6 bolt Constant Velocity joint. I need to machine & drill it to accept the strap flange unless there's a part available.

Aren't there aftermarket shafts with Solid Core HD U-Joints Front & Rear?
Then you only need to change the pinion flange?

I believe I've seen pictures of them. No center bearing on the ones I've seen. It surprises me Ford has gone to extremes apparently trying to achieve Cadillac riding "feel' in Mustangs. My involvement pretty much ends with SN95s, so I shouldn't talk like I know..........

The center "carrier" bearing are two piece shafts for GT.

That is a 2015 GT two-piece

This is the solid 1-piece for S550s:

It specifically says: These driveshafts do NOT use a CV joint. No CV means you don’t have an extra 5 lbs.
sitting on the front of your driveshaft that puts extra stress and loads on the output shaft and seals. It also
means you don’t have a CV joint that can wear or need serviced. Also gone are the rubber couplers that
are found on the OEM driveshaft.

I have such a one piece aluminum driveshaft with Spicer 1350 joint.... the Pinion Flange (bolted onto the rear-end pinion GEAR) on a 2015 & later pinion gear accepts a 6 bolt pattern C/V as your 2 piece drive-shaft picture reveals. I've replaced it (the drive shaft) with my one piece, shortened & balanced aluminum tube. It utilizes the 1350 Dana or Spicer U-Joint on the end of this NEW shaft. Connecting this shaft to the rear end is my issue as S550 8.8" independent rears, sometimes called the "8.8 Super" utilizing only the 8.8 inch ring gear 'dimension' & little if anything else. Not even with earlier Independent Suspension rears. Even the 'Crush Collars" are different & possibly the 'Spline Count".
