To Make Sure Everyone Knows You Got A 5.0
#12
I sure would take the 5.0 if u give it to me but I'm far from bitter. Hell I have a 7.5L on my firebird
Like I said, why should I get all worked up over a 0.4L displacement increase? ... especially since the competition is busting out 1L more. I had a 5.0 Ford on my 87 Lincoln, bullet proof engine, thing got me all over the US.
So Ford may even squize out 400HP N/A ... then what? So much more potential for HP with a 6.0.
I ain't hating, it's just my 2cts.

This little 5.0 will smoke the 455 sitting in you flaming roaster even if you have the SD-455.

Well said. Heads, valve train, and cams play very important roles in making power. Look at professional racing such as NHRA prostock. The cubes stay the same, however, the cars get faster and faster every year!

I definitly agree with that, but the less displacement you have the more you'll have to squize the HPs with more agressive cams/head chamber design/headers ... making ur engine "weacker". Then when you'll already have the max out of your engine, aftermarket mods will not bring much more to the table, nor will your $$$ blower.
Comparatively, a much higher cube engine will pull the same HP with less efforts, last longer and allow much more room for improvements.
5.0 is for marketing playing on nostalgia, they can make 400HP with todays 4.6L already. Screew the little 5.0, give us a 5.7 - 6.something so we can really get all crazy. Then only I'll get excited.

I agree.
Big cube with a 6 spd.
BTW, didn't the 455 SD come with underated 300hp and 400lbs of torque because of insurance reasons??
I'd like to know the real numbers, despite its 8.0:1 compression ratio...

It wasn't really the insurance as much as it was the new emission standard. We talking 1973 here, the original SD was said to pull 370HPs (same numbers as 70s 400 blocks), but they couldn't pass emission. So they put a smaller cam, and ended up with 290HP.
My 455 is not a SD, just a regular 455, 250HP-370TQ <sight> My car have a non restored matching number stock engine, 140,000 miles and runs 14.5 1/4 mile. Needs a rebuild but geezbus ... talk about strong. Due to the small cam, just replacing the cam and buying Edelbrock heads will bring from 250 to 440HP at the cranck. Not bad.
The insurance thingy was with the 67, or maybe the 70. Pontiac installed a "block" under the gas pedal that prevented u from going WOT, thus limiting the HPs. All u had to do was to remove it. The things u could get away with in those days lol
As for our Mustang ... they should put the FR 521 hehe
