Default Thinking of ordering a new 2011 GT

Hi, I'm going to buy a new 2011 GT.....who knows what the weight / performance difference would be comparing a GT basic coupe vs. the GT premium. Not sure what the weight difference would be and if this would make a difference. I know the base GT I would order comes out to $33,000. with cloth seats compared to $43,000. for the optioned loaded premium. I know the first items I would address will be 4.10 rear and full length headers with Corsa back-half or I have a 08 GT I could throw a lot of parts at....Hmmmmm....new 5.0 sounds better...... Any thoughts on this? Appreciate any advise.

Nothing to think about, if you don't love your 08 then the choice is easy go for the 11 if you can swing it.

As nit picky as this may sound.....what is the weight difference between a base GT coup a fully loaded GT premium? If it's like 500lbs or more of weight added for the premium coup then a base coup would be the better car depending on personal priorities (comfort or performance). The premium GT coups that are loaded could be 500lbs+ of extra weight that slows the car down considerably....100lbs equal a tenth in the quater mile(roughly). I like the technology but weight matters. I remember back in the day that the FOX body notchbacks (lighter 300lbs) were a few tenths quicker than the hatchbacks. I couldn't find information regarding weight of the "11" mustangs.....most people don't care...seems petty. When I take my 08 GT premium and cars in my past down the track I always jumped on the weight scale (08 GT 3640lbs) at the end of the track(englishtown NJ). If an 08 GT base coup is 30lbs lighter then who cares....give me all the options......a few hundred pounds more for those option....I don't need them.....car is not a daily driver....to have fun with.

I have the base GT and the weight with just the car is 3600LBs. This is confirmed from a weigh station I went to. Now you can probably add another hundred or so pounds for the premium GT as I'm sure all the extra features add up. I stand corrected though.

I've been searching the web and the specs state 3604lbs for a manual. I wish I could find out what a "11" California Special weighs in at? I have an 08 GT premium and it weighed in at 3640.......and I only have half the options.

Hi,
I picked up mine a few weeks ago and like you, could not find any information on what a stripped down model weighed.

I bought the manual 5.0 Performance White rapid spec 300a

-cloth manual seats
-active anti theft package
-wheel locking kit
-I ordered it with the 3.55 limited slip
-Brembo Brake package
-tape stripe delete
-255/40r 19 tire
-19" prem painted alum wheel

With a full tank of gas, everything in the car as it came, it weighed in on corner (longacre) scales at 3550 lbs.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like a nice car....pretty much what I was thinking , but adding a few appearance package options.....side scoops, hood scoop, rear pedestal spoiler and front and rear facia.

Good luck with the new car.....hope to have mine soon.

You're talking negligable weight differences here, as in differences small enough that they're not even worth discussing.

As long as you stay away from the optional glass roof and the AT, there shouldn't be much of a weight difference at all.

What are the main differences between the premium and the base? You get the oonzty stereo system which probably adds a handful of pounds and the leather seating which is likely a negligable weight difference over the cloth. I'd be surprised if you're looking at an extra 30 lbs there assuming similar options for options let alone something absurd like 500 lbs.

500 lbf of a fully loaded 400A over a 300A is absurd.

If I remember correctly, I think a fully optioned out 400A over a bare bones 300A is probably at most only 200 lbf more.

Sounds right, but 300A vs a 402A could be significant......no way to verify....back in the day the old fox body notchback vs hatchback was advertised based on it's lighter weight. There wasn't much in options back then. 6way power seats, navigation, trunk speaker box(shaker 1000), pedistal spoiler, scoops, front and reae facial, bigger rims I do agree it couldn't be 500lbs?
