i helped my friend put on a boss intake on his 11 5.0 with about 14k on the clock, the amount of oil in the intake and TB was shocking. depending on how you drive blow by is likely where your oil is going, especially if you don't see smoke from the oil burning. i was at a track day this weekend and a guy there had literally installed a oil separator on the passenger side of his 11 5.0 an hour before driving it 30 miles to the track and had a teaspoon in the separator already.

Please tell me. Why does the oil go into the intake and what is harmful about that? Is it designed to do that?

think what else go through the intake. air...air goes through the valves and into the CC. you would but smoking your *** off and diluting the fuel and fouling the plugs.

Oil in the intake won't damage the engine (not in the volume it's produced by a normal engine, anyway) but over time it will decrease intake volume (think plaque in your arteries) and reduce efficiency - and fuel economy. An oil catch can is in the same league as regular fuel system cleaner applications - but produces a more tangible benefit (the oil in the can that would be in your intake).

I installed the catch can and it probably caught only 1 oz of fluid over 4000 miles. Not the massive blow by some claim but substantial over the life of a car. I also changed the oil at 5100 miles (oil life 3%) and only drained 6.5 quarts. In between what would not drain out of the pan and the amount now on my driveway I am estimating that it burned up 1 quart through the break in, not terrible.

First 5000 miles - 1.5 quarts were added to keep it at full.

about 14,000 miles on our '11. Haven't seen any significant drops in oil level. Intake is about as clean as a DD car is going to be. :dunno:

Being an owner of a new F150, I see on that forum some of the trucks with 5.0's do the same. After approx. 5000 miles it seems to settle down. Nature of the beast I guess.
