Default Automatic transmision

Hi, what are some opinions on the performance and durability of the automatic in the 5.0?

i drive one with the steeda 93 octane tune and no problems yet. if you live in an area that's heavily trafficked then i would go with it otherwise i would go with the M/T.

I drive mine and like it. Even with the stock tune, once you get used to pedal positions you can get the engine to behave as you want it to lol. I have to say though, getting it tuned is suggested. The shifts are in much better places and make that car sound like it's running a manual.

Overall though it's a smooth tranny, no bad noises, smooth and fast shifts (when it does want to shift) etc.

Anyone use a programmer to firm up the shifts? How did you like the change?

I have run Brenspeed tunes in mine and it's just a massive difference. Whether you go AM or Brenspeed or Lund or anything like that, the difference is massive. You realize when you tune the 5.0 Auto trans that the shift speed of the transmission isn't bad, it's the fact that the thing is programmed to shift like a granny, stock.

Doesn't Lethal Performance have a 10sec auto 5.0L?

Thanks, I'm looking forward to finding out the difference between the two.

yep so far people are reporting the autos handling 650whp+ and some of the fastest 11+'s are autos. The automatics in the 11+ are much more expensive than the 05-10s. I think on my sticker it was a $500 option on my '07, now it's over $1000. But they are durable and 6 speed so... I think they are worth it. some people complain about thunking noises, I get them.

The $1000 cost for the automatic option is not just in 'Stangs but in Camaros too. And I think the automatic option costs the same in Challengers. I think it is because they are six speeds and they most all deal with 400BHP crank or more.
