Fuel Mileage - Prospective Buyer
#11
I just drove from saint louis to Knoxville and back...averaged 24mpg. On the way home..a 515 mile trip.. I stopped once for gas. This is with AC on, 4 people in the car, trunk full of luggage, and going 70-90 mph (maybe faster at times).

(not counting the short little fun bursts coming out of every little small town)
.....'course, driving this route gets me into the high teens

I'd say your mpg would be fine compared with the money you spend for diesel truck.
Don't neglect to forget diesel is also more costly as far as money per gallon.
Once you start doing HEAVY modding, that's when the mpg will suffer some.
OR you get a lead foot from enjoying the power of your new 5.0 lol.

check our www.truecars.com or carsdirect.com. I submitted an inquiry and got 3 responses within a few hours....all in their initial email saying that they would give me the Zag price without hassle. Havent made a purchase but it seems like its a heck of a lot easier way to buy a car.
Edit: Also, right now with the incentives that Ford is giving....it is probably cheaper for you to get a new one. Not to mention that you have the peace of mind of knowing exactly how the car is going to be treated.

My 09 gets 28.2 on the highway and this is going uphill into the Rockies. Oh this is CDN numbers. My 10 Ram 4x4 short box reg cab just went 2400 miles one way (Calgary-Windsor Ont) and I got 22 mpg CDN. The climb back west starts tomorrow am so we will see what numbers I get. The truck has 12,000 miles on the odo so it is breaking in. Oh I paid 570.00 CDN for the gas 1 way which is almost spot on to my pre-trip estimate.

The vehicle I drive now gets about 16-18.5 city/highway mix, depending on temperature, and how far away my destination is. If its just a hot-shot trip down the street, and I do that a couple times, it drops my average down to a miserable 11-14. I guess its the nature of the beast, being a diesel and such.
On another note, if there happen to be any people with sales experience, what would someone say a fair asking price would be for a 2012 GT premium, 5.0L, 6-spd M/T, no extra features, except the included Rapid Spec 400A that is factory with the premium.
Heck, even a used 2011 should be a pretty good deal, I'm just curious to see if I am willing to afford that chunk of change, given I may still keep my truck.
Thanks!

The first two modifications I have ever done to a vehicle when I have gotten them, including my last pickup, '93 Chevrolet K2500 6.5L TD, is replace the exhaust, and soon later intake. Those two choices generally are the least expensive, effective way to build a few more horsepower/torque, and get a bump on fuel mileage, so most likely, within the first month of owning such a car, if I get one, I will finish researching exhaust kits, true dual, w/ cross-over, most likely 2" or 2.5", either MagnaFlow, or FlowMaster. Air intake generally soon to follow, most likely K&N.
If anyone has numbers from things like that, let me know, or any better suggestions on brand name to use.
Also, another thing I have been considering, even doing to my truck, is getting it Dyno Tuned. I'm sure I may be able to find out from the Techs doing the work on the Truck and/or Car, but how far is too far for a gasoline engine when it comes to adding power, re-programming, then loosing fuel mileage? With a diesel, you can get away in cases adding upwards of 150-200 HP, and still not lose fuel mileage, or in some cases gain an improvement in fuel mileage, depending on rather or not the engine is tuned to the mods, and you can keep your foot off the floor.
