Motor down to the dealer and talk to the service writer and tell them you have difficult shifting when the gearbox is cold.
Not to beat an old post, but that wasn't the solution. They still don't have one.

Default 2012 Manual transmission trouble

I just took my '12 GT into the dealership due to it not wanting to go into 1st or 2nd gear. I thought it had someting to do with the Hurst shifter I had installed but I put the factory shifter back in and the problem got worse. I was told that it was likely something to due with the internal linkage. I'm hoping it turns out to be a minor problem as my car is only 6 months old and I really like it. Anyone else having this problem?

Subscribed. Keep me posted, I would like to see what they say. Did they know you changed out the shifter? Can this void warranty?

My second gear was the same. Changing the transmission fluid was the trick for me. I used royal purple.

The hype over the trans problems aside from the very first problem with bolts backing out due to the use of the wrong bolts, was made up... upon investigation they found 32 incidents .. 32.. ford sells over 4,000 mustangs every month.. most months more. And they did the investigation on all the 2011 .. wanna do the math? Howeverif you have an itch and every internet site tells you itching is a poisonous spider bite and a few trolls post videos of one.. you start to see it? I have a 2011 with bolt ons, tune, and 20,000 never used oil shifts like silk. Friend has s 2012 with a blower and bolt ons and same mileage. Friend just bought a 2013... all of us track them all of us have had 0 problems

That is good news. Just to be safe I will ask them as well when I pick up mine. Perfect, I will wait to hear. Really curious now.

My 2012 shifts rough in 5th only... Strange.....

Gas mileage increased a lot (4-5 MPGS) when I began to shift 1 3 5 6 around 22-2500 RPMS (2k to get the major increase) and drive more like a civilized human I am around 19.7 average with 50/50 street/highway and the car has 5500 miles on it.

My pedal sticks to the floor at high RPMS shifts....I hate it the most when hitting it in first then slowing down to a stop... holding clutch in the whole time... go to take off and stall out because the damn thing released about 1/4" from the floor lol. Embarrassing

Sorry it took me soo long to get back to everyone. At first they tried saying they had to replace part of the shifter assembly which made no sense to me. After speaking with the service manager he told me they replaced the pressure plate bolts and put a new syncro in the tranny. Apparently there was an error with the torque specs on the pressure plte bolts when the some of the 5.0 manual mustangs were built. They told me Ford has fixed the problem and they are fixing the affected cars on a case by case basis.
