Default Why are the torque numbers so low for our FI options?

stock = 390ft-lb

Roush = 465ft-lb

Vortech = 473ft-lb

Seems so low when compared to the 4.6L Roush Phase 1 that's 435lb-ft (up from 325ft-lb)

Speculation, but possibly due to the leftover potential between the 4.6 and the 5.0 in stock form? Ford pulled a lot out of the 5.0 with the 11.0:1 CR and the adjustable timing, where the 4.6 was not taken as far in factory form.

It is also difference in the characteristics of the bore and stroke that plays a hand in this.

I think the high compression and parasitic loss from a pulley driven supercharger are the biggest factors in hindering torque gains.

High compression limiting the boost pressure yes (and resulting amount of injected fuel), however parasitic losses between S/C on the 4.6 and the 5.0 of similar design should remain the same.

Those are still big numbers anyway you slice it, if you want to keep the drive ability of the car I think that's all you need.

When you start off high stock..you hit a ceiling quickly . That's a lot of torque for a $30,000 car.

I wouldn't complain at all about those numbers

The Coyote block is good for much more torque, about 600 ft-lbf at the crank. The weak parts of course are the pistons and conrods.
With a built rotating assembly and reduction some on the geometric CR, say down to 10:1, or even 9.5:1, you can up the boost considerably, into double digit boosts, and really pull some power out, in the 700 BHP range at the crank.
Hell, there are guys crazy enough to dump double digit boosts into the manifold of a bone stock 11:1 CR Coyote (no forged pistons on stock fake-forged sintered conrods). And those guys are reporting well north of 600 HP at the wheels!

Thanks for the responses and just to be clear, I'm not complaining at all. Just wanting to understand.

Also, I missed putting this out there, but the Edelbrock setup has torque at 503ft-lb which is very good.
