Hand calculating is always more accurate than the gauge inside of your car. The gauge is always 2-3 MPG lower and sometimes much lower than hand calculations.

I did not know that, thanks for everybody's advice. I'll definately start to hand calculate it, to get more accurate readings!

Not every tank of fuel is comparable to the previous tank so that in itself will skew your data. Add temperature changes, tire pressure changes associated with temperature changes, humidity changes, wind speed AND direction, road surface, # of traffic lights, timing of traffic lights, average speed over that tank of gas, the # of "spirited" trips, and a number of other variables will impact average fuel mileage.
The MPG expert here.... I have read some post where you have years of mileage calculations before finalizing your MPG.

Spirited drives are what kill my MPG

Sorry, I'm not understanding everyone who says the Miles till E/MPG/etc is inaccurate. My gauges are always accurate when compared to hand calculations. Everything is run by a computer in the car, the computer knows how much fuel is used and compares that to how many miles you have driven. So the "MPG" should be pretty accurate, and for me it is. Of course the "miles till empty" is only an estimate because it will vary if you stop/idle/accelerate in differences but it is usually pretty damn close...

Maybe I just got lucky...
