I installed the GT500 axlebacks on my '12 GT 6-speed. I think they provide a good rumble at idle, and an even better sound through the gears. Any axle back is still going to sound pretty tame from inside the car, but outside they are great, with no drone. These mufflers are cheap, but like all GT500 exhaust, they are made from high quality stainless steel by Borla, at about half the price. The 4" outlets also do a great job of filling in the exhaust cutouts. I was considering the Borla S axle backs, but for the same price was able to get FRPP's Power Pack with Pro-cal tuner, and K&N drop in filter. Now the car has some serious traction problems.

Single tip. The dual tip are from the 2013 GT500 and would require a new rear facia (and maybe other parts).

New fascia, new bumper cover, new tail lights......or a delicate hand with a dremel tool and no fear about cutting up the car.

You need 2011-2012 to fit the 13 without changing the rear valance. 2013 with the dual tip require a new valance.

With cats, I think it is tough to get that authentic classic tone because the cats take the edge off. To really get the sound right, you need to drop a Holley 4bb, or the like on it get the classic carb intake noise which is almost as important to the classic tone.

Last time I was at a track day, there were a couple of race Mustangs, a 4.6 and a 5.0. They both had a great classic sound with no cats, straight pipes and minimal mufflers. You might prefer more effective mufflers as I could hear them bellowing all the way on the far side of the track!

I hope you find this interesting.
