Default Computer tune or chip

I recently bought a 12 gt from a dealer(not Ford).
I had a crash that popped the side seat airbag. The body shop has to reset the computer for the bag and seatbelt sensors.
I just found out my car apparently has a tune installed but don't know mfg or any details.
The computer is now locking anyone out that doesn't have the Tuner that was used and I can't get a hold of the previous owner that did it.
The body shop says I need to get a whole new computer.
Does this sound right?

Nope. Unless you have add on stuff like a CAI, long tubes, FI, stuff like that, your local Ford dealer should be able to reflash your ECM no sweat. Going to cost you, but that will remove the "custom" tune and put it back to stock.

I do have an Airaid CAI but thought it had the restricter ring installed . I never would have bought it if I knew it had a tune. I am worried about my warranty being void now.

Buy a used one off of ebay or in the classifieds here, slap it on and call it a day. All you have to really do is play like you have no clue and more than likely Ford will not say a word. Too bad you did not post last week. I just threw away my old stock intake. If is showing a tune, more than likely you have a tune required CAI. Makes no sense to have a custom tune and a no tune required CAI, unless they put the "canned" tune in it with a no tune required CAI. Get you a stock intake, get your car reflashed, and get to driving it! I would not worry about the warranty part. People go in all the time for service work with this stuff, me included. You are going the other way back to stock. You may have to fork over a little to get it back the way you liked it before but first we got to get you back in the game.
