Default Low-budget coyote build N/A

Had a very tantalizing idea, and maybe someone could chime in on it later on. After talking with Lawman(1) around some forums, and sharing ideas I have realized that hitting 500 RWHP without spending 10 grand is possible. After just recently seeing a Boss 302 hit 520 RWHP w/o doing any sort of aftermarket forged internals, besides the billet oil pump gears; completely feasible. Granted yes porting will be involved considering Coyote heads compared to Boss heads no contest! That and every bolt on down to camshafts are needed to produce said number thee chases after.

So hear me out.... Cryogenically treating the Boss 302 connecting rods (quite possibly shot peening them as well after, idk if it's worth it) and working them into the Coyote rotating assembly, yes balancing will need to be redone but it seems like a great idea w/o having to pay 800-1000 out of pocket just for rods which have time and time again shown to be the weak link in the STOCK assembly.

I keep seeing these connecting rods going for about 200+ for all 8, that's pretty damn good if you ask me. Please someone of wisdom do chime in, or if you have had experiences with cryo treating engine parts.

i believe my friend tried to do cryo treating with his trans internals on a different car and it seemed to accomplish nothing at all. not saying it wont work but i would not bet on it either.

The Boss302 comes with forged internals on its engine stock......

Maybe I didn't type that out clearly enough, yes I already know they are of forged material, powder and sinter forged. I stated "aftermarket forged" internals (wiseco, eagle, etc.) of the sorts.

But relaying back to cardude, what exactly were his aspirations coming away from cryo treating? What made you and him believe the cryo treating did nothing?

his aspirations were to have a transmission that would not blow up anymore. after he did it, it still blew up. in the end after gernading 5 transmissions he finally went to a diff model trans.

If you can find the Boss 302 connecting rods for only $200, you found a great deal.
I did a quick search and AM has the Boss forged pistons and Boss conrods for just over $800.

As for cryo-treating them I am not sure if that will give you any benefit for what conrods are meant to do: survive high speed compressive, tensile, and bending stresses; the obviously strongest stress experienced being compressive.
Cryo-treatment is used in transmissions gears to increase wear resistance. But how it would would improve conrods to survive larger compressive, tensile, and bending stresses, I am not sure it will give you much more.
Someone who has more knowledge about this metallurgical process, please chime in.

Personally, if I were you, I would opt to buy aftermarket true forged billet machined conrods; the brands you mentioned are excellent: Eagle, Diamond, etc.
If balancing is a concern, seek out their complete rotating assembly packages.
