I put a UPR catch can on my 2014 GT when it had 629 miles on it. About 250 miles later I opened it up to put some Teflon tape on the plug in the bottom of the bowl and had about a teaspoon of oil in it. Today I removed and opened it up to put some brass 90 degree fittings on it to replace the original plastic ones. It's been about 2,410 miles since I last checked the amount and this is what the can looked like.


I didn't have anything to measure the amount but it looked to be about 4 or 5 ounces. It was level with the little ridge that is toward the lower part of the can. I was surprised to see that amount of oil in there. I also had to replace the heater hose that I was using because the oil was seeping right through it. I replaced it with some hose that is for fuel vapor/PCV/EEC. Hopefully that will work.

I know, I don't know why they are so big. I think I over estimated how much oil was in the can after looking at one of our measuring cups. I think it had more like 2 or 3 ounces in it.

They are so big so that all of the oil will come out of suspension and be caught in the can. It's more then just a reservoir.

 

That amount of oil looks about right! Check out mine after ~2000 miles. It is a UPR catch can also.



It's definitely a great thing to have these catch cans on the 5.0. I did the same thing with teflon on the bottom screw, I knew it would not seal properly when I was installing it.

 

Seeing your can makes me feel better about how much was in mine. I was wondering if something was wrong with my car because of how much oil was in there.

When I ordered the new 90 degree brass fittings for my UPR can, I also ordered the drain valve that UPR sells and installed it in the bottom. I'm hoping that I can start draining the can without opening it up but there is not much room under my can so I may have to unbolt it every time to drain the oil out.

These cans are installed inline between your PCV valve on the passenger side valve cover and the intake manifold. During normal operation, some oil is getting sucked through the PCV valve and into the intake. It is supposed to get burned up but a lot of it doesn't and over time, this oil builds up inside the intake and can cause issues later on.

You can see how much oil accumulated in 2,400 miles. That is how much I saved from going into my intake. I don't think my can catches all of the oil because I can pull the line off going from the can to the intake and still see some oil in it. I still think they are well worth it. Do a search on oil catch cans and you can read a lot more about them.

Wow! I keep putting this purchase on the low end of my priority list. Maybe I should move it up? However, I plan on getting a 2015 or 2016. I'll just let the next owner deal with it.
