look what my catch can caught.
Be kind to the next owner, maybe they won't know any better.
Kind of a change in topic but I've got a JLT can and I'm collecting metal fines in the can. This stuff is finer than beach sand, not iron via the magnet test. I've got a black can so it's easy to see it with a light, but can anyone look at theirs to see if there is anything?
One tuner told me its parts of the piston surface from pinging when I had a Bama tune. When I ran it on the dyno one of the runs went lean so it's not all BS. Switched to a dyno tune (8k miles ago) and I am still getting this crap in the can. I've washed the can filter out too. The only thing it might be is flakes from screwing and unscrewing the cap. It's alarming the quantity of them though, but I also find it unlikely that the fines would be carried through the pcv system. I'm only picking up 2-3 tablespoons in the can between changes.

I know that when I emptied mine, the oil looked a little glittery but I attributed that to the fact that I'm still running the initial fill oil in my car and it was from the breaking in process.

Yeah, our cans trap a lot of oil vapor. My 3V car has a lot of blow by. (143k on the odometer) I just changed the oil and checked the can... it was almost full! I was freakin' out. (I'll post the video to youtube and share it soon. It was nutty)
Anyway, keep in mind that MustangForums.com members get a 5% discount on our cans.

Yes it was, sorry. That is the consistency of mine, but there are very fine particles in it. I didn't see any of that in the oil when I drained it, so I'm concluding it is debris from the steel wool or from the external threads to the can.
Catch can was my very 1st mod. IMO PCV systems should be rethought and deleted, I am tearing apart a 99' 3.8L and the entire intake is one big gunky mess. Oil does not belong in the intake. Anyway here is what I caught after a hundred miles:

Don't screw around with this; delete the PCV all together and get breathers or get a catch can system. Also guys with 5.0s don't forget to check your oil levels!!! These things drink up. Best to check the oil 1st thing in the morning after the car has been sitting for a long time.
