Quite a surprise under the hood ! I had noticed that something had been chewing my firewall insulation and that some of it was in the valley of the intake. I suspected chipmunks. Picture 1 shows my great surprise. Thank heaven I checked under the hood before starting it up. (2014 GT by the way.) I had zip tied some dark green chicken wire over the intake. (aka box spring) The little critter had packed in plenty of leaves. (aka mattress)
Hey this is my Mustang !
I lowered the hood and (nervously) waited till dusk. Then I put the live trap in.
Baited it with peanut butter. Took the little guy out into the woods where he (or she) scampered into the darkness. No additional damage. No evidence of chewing on anything other than the firewall insulation. That insulation probably contains soy, which critters love. A big shout out to my buddies in the Electrical Engineering department for using what I assume is no-soy wiring. Body engineers should take note !
This ugly mess (you can see I still had some of that chicken wire around) is what I came up with as a quick way to fill up that cavity on top of the intake. So far so good, will update if that changes.
