i have the sumitomo II's, 255/45-18 all around. what is the reccomended tire pressure to have? it says on the tire wall the max load is 51psi, but says to never exceed 40psi. is 40 the number to keep it at, or is a little lower, maybe 38, better?

You'll get mixed answers anywhere from 32-38psi. I would probably end up putting it right in the middle at 35psi, personally. If you see any issues with wear or gas mileage, you can always bump them up a hair to 38psi. I think 35 will be just fine, though.
