Default looking for High output alternator

I'm looking to upgrade my alt and I'm not sure about what brand to go with. I found 2 so far in my search.
Summit has a powermaster 200 amp chromeplated for $490.
Pa performance has a 200 amp bare alluminum for $350 or chrome plated for $570 pa performance
I think I'll skipp the extra $220 for chrome plating[sm=forgetit.gif]

I'd just like some advise from someone who has an aftermarket alt or a buddy who has one. Brand names, where to buy, and links please!

Also I thought about painting the bare alluminum alt. Is it possible to take the housing apart without tinny pieces falling everywhere or the need for special tools? I am an aircraft mechanic so I can handle taking things apart and putting them back together. But I have no idea what is under the housing. It would suck to take it apart and find out I cann't put it back together[:@]
Any help is appreciatied[sm=thanx.gif]

(I will also post this in the 05 section, more traffic)

I woulndnt waste the money on a pa or a powermaster if your running any kind of stereo they are not really 200 amps.Try www.ohiogen.com or www.stingerelectronics.com.I have both the ohio looks stock and performs better than the stinger but not by much but the stinger comes powder coated.

You could simply rebuild the alternator yourslef. That would save quite a bit of money.

I've got a JL 300/4 powering MBQuart premium 5.25 components and JL 500/1 powering a JL 10w7 Stinger 10 farad cap (I know its way bigger than I need but got a good deal from a friend). The stock alt is supposed to be 130amp. Last night I put a clamp style amp meter on the alt wire and with the sys cranked it drew about 70 amps at idle and 101 with the engine at 3k rpm.
The reason I'm looking at a new alt is a future mod I want is an electric water pump and I'd like a better safety margine down at idle.
I am looking at getting a optima yellowtop and am tring to do the big 3, I have to take the alt off to get to the lead so I haven't done that one yet.
I could also probable use an alt around 170 amp instead of a 200, that will save me some money.

IF you add a battery in the trunk for the system it will help yes the alternator works more to charge two but when the system pulls power it will be from rear battery

but you will gain over 50 pounds
