First off - are you using a Mac or PC ...
and second, if you bought a firewire cable, you need a special 4-pin to 6-pin ... and not a 6-to-6 pin.... AND you mentioned it was a Sony TRV ....something... is it a Digital8/Hi8 or just a Hi8.. that is where the answer lies.. I am almost certain it is a Digital8/Hi8 esp. if it is only 2 years old... I do not think you are out of luck yet at all.

never mind! It is an analog camera.. which means, you're pretty much out of luck! as another poster said you will have to buy another piece of analog-to-digital capture device... can be into hundreds.. at that point, just go buy a cheap-o Panasonic MiniDV from Best Buy for $300-something...
