You paid 4,000$ for a system with two 10" type r's...
.............yes...........if you add everything up........it DOES add up.....my radio was top of the line when I got it.......i got all the wiring and 2 caps off ebay from a monster cable seller and that totaled about 350.....6.5 Components are like 250 retail.....5x7s are 10.....two 10s at 200 each.....1000x1 was 550 retail....75x4 was 450......dynamat on doors (installation on that too).....custom box built in my trunk......after tax....plus about 800 bucks worth of labor because of the shop's recognition.....if i had it done by best buy (which we have had stuff done there and their work was HORRIBLE...had to replace entire driver's side door panel on my dad's F150 because they broke all the clips that hold it on) the labor would have been about 600 for all that stuff....so why not pay a little more for work that I KNOW is going to be good......other than wishing I mounted the tweeters higher because my left leg blocks my highs sometimes....I am VERY satisfied with the system......i agree seems a little over priced but other than the ebay discounted wiring and caps....everything was bought at msrp.......oh yea and i got the ipod controller (another 10 bucks) which is nice but is SO SLOW....wish I had waited to get the newer "full-speed" one...but then it doesnt work on my radio and I like the new ones...but their buttons dont change color anymore so I wouldn't even consider letting go of my 9835....I'm just trying to show him how stuff adds up.....even Alpine $1k system from last year seemed over priced.....and it didnt include labor/installatation....it was a lower line CD player....bottom level speakers and ONE 10" sub (all type-s stuff)....ONE bottom level amp for the sub (no 4-channel) and the ipod thing I have....but still rated best in SQ.....I had the option of getting my components from OnlineCarStereo.com....but my installer told me he wouldnt honor HIS work if the components failed because I didn't buy them from him and this is reasonable.....so instead of payin 70-80%......i paid the full so that the manufacturer's warranty and the shops warranty took effect.....plus the people I talked to at OnlineCarStereo seemed like they were HIGH.....besides the subs aren't the only part in the equation that make a system worthy...I actually believe the speakers are more important......but that's JMO

oh well im real lucky to have gone school with this guy that owns http://www.autosoundspecialists.com/ down on mission hayward...he doing everything for free custom work installation and everything...just gotta buy the subs and whatever deck or screen i want then he'll do the rest =P
AH......LUCKYYYYY......well I'm more of a SQ guy but my system BUMPS when I want it to....I personally like the sound of 10s (and sealed boxes) more than 12s but I listen to a wider variety of music....majority hip hop...but also alternative, some heavy metal, latin, movie soundtracks....so I made sure the 10s I got would hit hard and go deep enough to satisfy my hip hop.....but then be able to handle other types of music which have quicker more precise bass.....i all depends on what you want......I'm assuming you want to replace the factory speakers right?...well if not.....I suggest you do because even the Mach's speakers are kinda jenky IMO.....and I don't know if its just me.....but my doors rattled even with the stock NON-Mach speakers so I added a full layer of dynamat to the doors and it really cleaned up my sound.....just something to consider......so my question is this....are you planning on replacing the speakers? if so do you want an amp for them too? or just run them off the HU and put all your cash into the subs/sub amp and HU??.......cuz if you do replace everything you won't have enough cash for a nice flip-up HU unless he gives you a FAT discount....

$4,00o is insane for what you got done, that "custom" box isn't hard to do. I would have done it for cheaper.

ok well....i had it done at a VERY good shop.....my radio is top of the line before you go to a flip up/dvd audio unit.....speakers and subs are one rung below top of the line from Alpine....2 caps.....all wiring.....actually.....i didnt have speaker wire or enough wire to connect both caps so they used their own wire (AUDISON wires) to finish it off....and i have a lifetime warranty with the shop as long as i have the car with that set-up.....the labor is what killed me....but it was only a couple hundred more than if i had everything put in at good guys or best buy and i got it done right......i'm in constant contact with the owner thru email aksing questions and getting information on new product....so yea i kinda feel like i paid a little too much for the labor/install but everything else was at RETAIL or cheaper (off ebay or sale at good guys)....so other than the labor/install how did i pay too much??

The top of the line cd player is only at most a 4v? Are you sure it is top of the line, under flip out?

top of the line 2 years ago....actually i think the newer ones are lower now.....alpine has significantly lowered it quality here the past few years while japan and the uk get all the good stuff....IMO i think theyre losing a lot of customers because while their stuff is cheaper now....it literally is CHEAPER.....and yes i know other companies out there have 5v like eclipse (right?).....but not a big diff for the set up i have now
