Default Electrical problems; sound, HU, and more

I've got a Sony FX-5500 HU in my '99 V6 with the base "premium" sound system. The sound isn't bad at all, and seeing as I'm not a power user, I'm content with it except for one major problem: The left side speakers like to fritz out. The rear left speaker kicks in and out seemingly at random, and the front left speaker stopped working completely a while back. I replaced the stock HU about a day after I got the car, so I don't know if this problem happened with the stock equipment. There's also an audible hiss in the speakers that doesn't scale with the volume; I'm attributing that to incompatibility with the stock amp (I didn't bypass it).

The HU is wired straight into the stock wiring with a wiring harness; I soldered it myself and I've rechecked and even redone the solders twice, made sure to insulate the wires very well, so I don't think the problem lies there. This car is notorious for electrical problems; when it gets really hot, the power windows occasionally stop working, the passenger power lock won't unlock remotely or with the power button nine times out of ten, and my right turn signal flashes faster than the left as if I had a burned out bulb (though all the lights work fine; the signal also randomly goes back to normal speed, but won't stay there long).

I got this car at 66,000 miles and it's going on 100k now, and I've never looked closely at the electrical system. Where in it might these problems lie? I haven't done any troubleshooting yet as I don't have a lot of electrical experience and I need some advice first. I've had some people reccomend replacing my grounds; where can I find them and how can I go about doing it?

Thanks in advance!

Wow...that sounds like my 79 VW Rabbit I kind of doubt anyone is going to be able to help much on a web site. For those kind of problems, you just have to get a wiring diagram and systematically test all the wires. Could be just a loose ground somewhere.

you need to try and recreat the problem to be able to fix it. Pull the deck out and with the power on, try to wiggle or gently pull on the hrns and connections to see if you can hear it cut out. It could also be a problem with the factory amp. I always recommend bypassing the factory amps as it really limits the sound of new decks with a descent amp. There may be a way to easily bypass the factory amp. I know that they did it on earlier models for a number of years, and if you are comfortable and willing to dig around for the proper hrns in the dash, I would try and walk you through it.

I am going home in june for a friends wedding and planning on driving my 94 gt back out to az(finally looking forward to that drive, IN-AZ). I plan on postind instructions and pictures of what to look for when I tear into the stereo.
