While I agree that the valentine is a great unit, there might be a couple of things to keep in mind. I have had my window busted out on my car so the bastards could steal my radar detector. It was a $40 whistler 1740. You think they would see a $400 valentine and say, naw I dont think I want to steal that? I have used the "low end radar detectors since I have been driving and have not had one ticket in 18 years of driving. Although I had spotted several cops that thought they were being sneaky. Valentine claims theirs is the only detector that will pick up signals from the rear. My Whistler has both front and rear laser and is sensitive enough to pick up radar from behind. And at $40 I can buy 10 of them for the price of one valentine and stay up with the current models with out having to run upgrades to it.
A little story for you. Any one from Amarillo can tell you about the I-27/I-40 interchange. I-27 actually drops down to go under I-40 The speed limit also changes rapidly. This makes for an ideal speed trap. They park a cruiser up on I-40 to radar trafic moving up 27 and they park a row of cop-cycles underneath along side 27. You can see where this is going. the cop on top used laser and calls down to the motorcycle cops waiting below. My whistler would detect reflections from other cars getting lasered and would warn me early enough to slwo down and roll by the trap with a smile on my face.
So you can buy a cheeper unit now and be protected in 90% of the situations or wait to save up and hope you dont get a $350 ticket until you get it.

you can hide the V1 behind the mirror and get a conceled display and mount it somewhere where no one else can see it

K40 is a good one too... Also great for front and rear coverage as well as letting you know if it is from the front or rear. Of course it is a little bit pricey as well.
