Default Ipod

Is anyone else having problems with their ipod not being able to connect to their computer. I have version 3.1.1 ipod and it freezes up a lot. It has only started doing this recently and I cant seem to fix it. I keep on restting the ipod but sooner or later it will freeze again. I did updates uninstall and re-installs, and all of my efforts seem in vain. Why doesnt my ipod connect to my computer? My ipod still has all of my songs and playlists since I have 2011 songs on it currently. Any help or ideas anyone?

Also when I try and use the ipod updater it keeps on saying "can't mount ipod". This is getting frustrating. Do you think I need a new Cable for the ipod?

It's probably your USB ports on your computer, you will probably have to buy a part the goes into your CARDBUS slot, which adds 2 xtra USB ports.

I do have extra ports on my computer. I tried using the ipod supplied cable" usb/firewire"? cable in each of the ports and the results were the same. I know the other ports work because the other accessories i I have hooked up to them work. So what do you think it could be?

I have a desktop , and I was wondering if you think I really need a new card or just the cable. My printer usb port works but not with my ipod. Same thing for my digital camera. The camera connects and works fine but not my ipod.

Well, keep checking the fourms for more answers but it seems to be your USB cable.

the ipod usually uses USB 2.0, depending on how old your computer is it could be using USB 1.1 or 1.2. Your printer and camera most likely use 1.1, so it is a totally different scenario. You could get those cards really cheap by the way. about 10-15 bux at best buy or some similar place. try it, you don't lose too much if you did try it. if it still doesn't work, take it to apple if it's under like 1.5 years old, but otherwise just get a new one, fixing it wouldn't be worth it.
oh wait, do you have a mac or pc, because that makes a big difference (most mac people wouldn't be having problems though)

My computer is a pc and all 4 usb ports are 2.0. So maybe its that my ipod cable is bad? Any idea on how much a usb cable for an ipod might cost? Thanks.
