Default Subs and Amp

As of now I have a late 01 Mustang GT and I have the most basic system in it (cd player and cassette, NOT MACH 460). I plan on adding subs and an amp to it to give it more bass. I think I'm going to go with two 12" subs but have no idea which ones to choose, which box to put them in or what amp to power them with. Any ideas are welcome.

Personally I like rockford subs, but apline and jl are good too. They have the most bang for your buck for the most part. As far as an amp goes, that all depends on A) how you intend on wiring the subs, and B) what power (RMS) the subs you choose are going to be. It's best to find an amp that has an equal RMS wattage to the combined RMS wattage of the subs. As far as a box goes, it mostly depends on the type of music you listen to and what kind of bass you like. Sealed enclosures tend to offer tighter bass with slightly less boom than a ported box. Ported enclosures usually give a thicker bottom end and really resonate well. Bandpass enclosures are more expensive but let out a more raw bass sound. With any enclosure you have to make sure it will fit inside your car first. I have had alot of trouble with that in the past but there are a few dealers out there that offer custom enclosures for mustangs to optimize your trunkspace. I would say check on e-bay and see what you can find.

do yourself a favor and save up and do speakers and a new head unit at once...it will just sound better...you will be a LOT happier...i personally really like Alpine products but i know there are better stuff out there for the money...i think their quality has gone down in recent years...if you stick to the name brands like pioneer, alpine, kenwood etc....you know you will have stuff that is decent however look for the high-rated yet not-heard of stuff...elemental designs has REALLY good speakers for the money...i will be replacing my Alpine Type-R speakers with them soon..my Alpine Type-R subs are good enough for now although i may replace them with one 12" Type-X or Critical Mass 12"...just wait around for ttocs or someone with more AV knowledge though

What type of music do you listen too?

Why two twelves? What makes you think they would suit you the best?

How much room do you have for a box?

Do you want spl or sq?

Do you want to be heard a mile away, or sound incredibly good inside?

Do you plan on installing more in the future, possibly needing to upgrade the altenator?

i have a pioneer head unit, pioneer speakers, 2 12 inch infinity subs, and a Sony 1000Watt amp. I would reccommend this set up it cranks pretty good.

I listen to mostly rap/hip-hip and rock. No reason for two 12s I just felt they are a good size (not too big not too small). I have the truck of a 01 Mustang GT to fill up although I don't want to fill it completely. What is SPL or SQ? I would rather have it sound good and have a lot of bass than be heard from a mile away. I will probably leave everything else stock for now, haven't thought about the future. Why would I need a new alternator?

If you want decent sq, sound quality, and do not want to fill up your entire trunk, then why not go with one twelve. Build a box, for the perfect sq settings. DO NOT GO JL AUDIO. I don't care what anyone says, go a different, better, brand, i.e. Mojo, Avalanch, DD, Orion, and give me the extra cash that you save from not going JL. If you are not going to get serious into audio, then don't worry about another altenator. Find the sub you want, come back to me, and I will give you the amp you need. Go with a new headunit, whether it looks like garbage, get a new one with 8 or so prevolts, and sub controls.

They are over-rated/over-priced/over-talked about and over-ly praised.

I could take one 12" Orion h2, and spank a 13.5 in sq, spl, and it would take up half the room, with half the wattage.
