I just recently bought new door speakers for my 00 mach 460 system. The only reason im upgrading is because one speaker is crackling. Is this install a direct replacement or what. I was told not but im not sure about the source.

 

depends, are they components, are they normal 2 or 3 way speakers, etc

 

5x7/6x8 would be direct replacement i guess. But theres a few companies out there that make componet system that come with a 5x7 plate with them. Check out Boston Acoustics SL 6" 5x7 plate componets excellent sq for the money and you get the componet sound in completly stock mounting.

 

not direct replacements, aftermarket speakers are 4ohm and the stock are 8ohm, if you replace the speakers they don't work cuz the mach 460 amps aren't 4 ohm stable, i would look for an 8ohm speaker or goto a junkyard and get one, unles you want to spend 800 + $ for new front and rear speakers and an amp, plus rewire it, i did that it sucked, it was only 800 because the speakers i got are 150 rms each (not a pair), but rewiring a mach system sucks unless you have a good aftermarket head unit

 

What I did was get 2 pairs of Pioneer 4-way speakers for doors and rear deck. I also had the Mach system, and put in an Alpine HU with Alpine amp to power the system. I'd say for just over $700 2 pairs of the Pioneer speakers, HU, and amp to power it all is well worth it. 6x8's are what you need.
