Best Sub/Amp...headunit needed?
OK..i was originally thinking about buying alpine type R but now that i saw the type X i think i might just pay the extra 150 for it or w/e. You guys think that buying the alpine type X just one 12" is a good choice? but than idk what amp i would need bc wouldn't it have to match the RMS of 500-1000watts rms of the sub? what is a good amp i can get to match this sub and make it sound good? Also...should i but the head unit too or can i just convert my stock headunit to run the amps/subs?

an aftermarket deck (cd play) will make you stock system sound sooo much better. JL audio make a 500/1 amp and a 1000/1 amp the first is a 500 watt rms amp and the second is a 1000 watt rms amp. if you want the best sounding hard hittting sub, you would get a JL 12w7 w/ a 1000/1.
I agree...you can't beat JL on bass reproduction. The W7 series is insane. I have a 10W6V2 on a 500/1 and it is plenty-o-bass. Make sure you give the JL's enough power though. I tried the W6 originally on a 250/1, which is a powerfull amp, and it couldn't push it. It actually popped and folded. Switched to the 500/1 and all was fine. If you went with a 12W7 and a 1000/1 you would most definately need some high-end components to match the bass repo.

ohhh... we've got a JL hater.

Yes there is cheaper stuff that is out there but if you think JL's sound bad then you have no ear. And yes I have owned or heard most of the competition. Orion's are really nice as well.

Jl really does make good subs for the price I have not heard subs that can compare that cost less for sound quality, if you don't care about sq then you can go with a whole lot of cheaper subs that are loud as hell. Speaking from experience Have had so many different subs and the best were jl 8w7 and 10w7, right now I have 6w0, have had mtx, pioneer sony, infinity and MbQuart, the only ones that I thought sounded good were the jl's and the MbQuart, b ut this is just my opinion, don't let people tell you that jl's are not good though as far as most people are concerned you can't go wrong with jl subs, sure you may find better, but all jl's are good for sq.
Hisss I have been working with JL for about 6 months now and honestly I like them a hell of alot more than I did. You want to see a sick setup we just did a 12W7 with a 1000/1, full ZR componets with a 450/4 in a guys 06 Viper. Right now were doing his 03 with a 500/1 and a 12 W6 and again ZR componets and only a 300/4. Next week he brings in the big dog... His H2. Got 28's on it. Every chrome accessory you could imagine, kinda goddy looking I think but none the less very impressive. Were doing 2 13W7's in a ported fiberglass enclosure and 2 1000/1's on them should be insane.
Not that im a true believer in JL now but my outlook on them is definatly higher. Im starting to really like Boston componets. We carry them as well. I myself hope to be doing the SPG555 sub and Pro componets with their monster GT28 for the SPG and the GT-40 on the PRO's.
Heres the profile on JL's site.

And here's alot more photos on our website.
2006 Viper
The pictures dont really show you this that great but we did blue and white led lighting throughout. Around the Viper logo shaped area around the sub, on the smoked plexi on the sides of the amp rack, and on the inside part of where the license plate would be, where the plastic panel actually says SRT-10.
Dave Kindred is our installer that took on the 06, the 03 and his H2 next week. We also did full tint on all of his cars, the funny thing is that we did his 06 like 3 weeks ago and just did the sub enclosure in fiberglass and the rest in carpet and he came in and liked it and said "You know it looks nice but I want more for this car I think" (Actually if you look at the last picture on the JL site you can see the original sub enclosure on top of our fridge)So we gather some ideas and thats what we came up with. He spent $12,500 on the original layout on the 06. And since we redid it to what you see now that was an additional $2,000 in labor since he obviously had the most expensive part, the equipment. His Yellow 2003 with black stripes is quoted at $6,000 (should be done by thursday). And his H2 is at about $17,750 (pending he doesn't change his mind into something more insane again) This guy is super cool and if you seen him you would never think these were his cars let alone that he lived in a place with running water. He's like part hispanic and part french I believe and he wears the same outfit every day but doesn't like smell or anything kinda like a cartoon character you know.
And I forgot the $800 AudioControl EQ we added after we finalized the entire 06 install. He wanted it to be "fine tuned" and this was our solution. And 3 hours of perfection tuning with the oscilloscope, added the total to $1,000 to add this EQ. I swear when we get done with all 3 of these cars he will be in a magazine with them all.
If you want to see something else crazy we did...

This was done 2 years ago by our now service manager. Sick money into this thing. Bought it new in 2002 put $35,000 in audio and video into it. $10,000 on the candy tangerine ghost flame paint job. And the 26's im not exactly sure but I would guess around $10,000 back then 26's were IT you know. And he sold the thing on eBay like 6 months after having all this completed for like $42,500. All of that on top of paying the original sticker price of like $40,000 alone. he lost his *** on that gig.
