I have a serious question. I've got a JL 10W7 with a 500/1 running to it. It's a sealed box in an '05. For some reason the subwoofer keeps tearing. Is it because I don't have a ported box and I'm pushing the sub too hard for a sealed box? (This is going to be the second time I will have to send the subwoofer into JL because of this)

Are you ripping the surface of the cone, or are you blowing the voice coils?

I'm definitely not blowing the voice coils, or atleast I shouldn't be because I'm running the suggested rms power to it. But it is ripping around the circle. Nothing is ever in my trunk so it's not being caused by something hitting it either.

Kicker is the way I would go, not too expensive and they hit hard, 2 12L7, and a 1200.1 that **** will be loud. JL is too expensive and your just buying the name. and im sure ill get some **** for sayin that.

Once you mounted it did you do the trim re-assembly correctly? cant think of anything much other than that. You shouldnt be tear the surround like that with a 500 and a sealed box.... hmm....

It might have been a distorted signal from by stock head unit. I just put in an alpine doubled-in touchscreen and it sounds really nice with no popping noises. I'm getting dynamat and a ported box soon, so that should hit real hard.

Also, I was wondering whether getting a ported box for a 10W7 would sound better than a sealed 13W6 with a 500/1 amplifier. Any thoughts?
