Default ported Vs. sealed sub box

What are the sound differences between a ported and a sealed box?

a sealed box sounds thighter, crisper and takes more power. ported seem muddier to me. i think its because you're hearing the reflecting sound from inside the box.

+1

Sealed just sounds better in my opinion. A lot tighter sound.

Open cars (hatch foxbodies, etc) you want a ported box, youll want the sound waves to travel through the air because you share the same space as the enclosure. Cars with trunks (sn95's,etc) you want a sealed box, itll resonate inside the trunk using it as another enclosure. Thats my rule of thumb, ported boxes sound like **** in trunk and sealed boxes sound like **** in hatch cars.

I have had 2 JL audio subs in both sealed and slot ported boxes both were W7, 8" and 10" both style boxes were JL recommendations and they both sounded the same just different volume outputs, as it should be. 2-4 decibels higher for ported vs sealed, an increase of 3 decibels is double the volume. FYI

Na, i wanted SOME trunk space left. They are only 10W6's. With a JL recommended box. The reason there is no more room....
