Default best 12V source/ factory amp

Hey I have two questions. i am going to hardwire my GPS and Radar Detector and I am wondering where the best 12V place would be wiht out causing power issues, I already have a XM radio hardwired but the install looks pretty shotty and I might redo that too.

Next, I am installing a radio for a friend, with my other friend. He thinks that it is okay to leave the stock amps on the system, (His stereo sounds like ****, btw). For some reason I think that is bad (based on nothing but side comments). The system we are installing will have a new amp for the speakers, I assume it is best to take outh the stock amps right. (My friend thinks that they will only just add more power) Who is right

page 2 of my sig shows how I kept the stock speakers and amp. If you do it right you can suprise yourself but it takes some tweeking. I used a line driver on my alpine sub output to allow me to adjust the bass to the system independendtly from the volume to help out, as well as some x-overs for the front speakers which is a necessity.

As for hardwiring, cig lighters are always popular and there is also a hrns below the consol for most mustangs that has a switched and a constant for the convertable(if a hard top) that is unused.

Best Place? From your battery, with a fuse on it. Easiest, you could use the cigarette lighter, or the same one your radio uses.

Alright, but the system already includes aftermarket amp, speakers, etc. There would be no benefit to leave the stock amp in the circuit right?

HU-new amp-new speakers is better than,

HU-stock amp-new amp-speakers

correct?

dunno on the stereo, I haven't been to far into that part of this car yet. As far as the radar detector, If you don't have the alarm, pull down the map light assembly and tap into the 12v wires there. The 12V is always hot there, the ground is what floats to light the map/dome lights. Probably just ground to the sheet metal up there and you're set. Mount the detector below the mirror and you're set, pretty clean install.
