Mach 460 cut out issue!
So I just picked up an 04 GT and the first thing I noticed was the driver side door speaker blown! I got a simple pioneer 6X8 upgarde to cure that problem! Immediately after the install I noticed that if the Bass or Volume was too high.... usually about half.... less if bass is up more......the front speakers quit altogether and the amps shut down! Itsusually only for seconds but as soon as they come back on they go back off! All until I either turn the bass down (about half) or the volume down (about half)!
Anyone every experience this problem with a speaker upgrade? My guess is the speakers are trying to draw more power than the system will put out! I could be wrong though!
Any ideas on this matter would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers and thanks in advance!

Sounds like impedence issue. It is likely that the speakers you took out are 8 ohm, and the ones you installed are 4 ohm. This seems to me could account for this prob. Hopefully PReal, ttocs will chime in and give a little more (or correct [

I had mine out the other day as it is blown as well and there is an impedence issue. I can't remember what the stock speaker is but I believe he is correct with 8 ohms. Unfortunatly the only way to properly fix it is with a new stock speaker, however if you plan on switching out the deck this would be the time as that will also fix it. You will need to bypass the amp(page 2 of my sig) and wire that speaker in with the tweeter, that would be driven off of your new deck.
Thanks very much for this feedback! I had an idea that the new speakers might be the cause.... didn't think about ohms though!
I do plan on getting a new deck sometime, just not very soon! However when I do get a new system can I keep the Factory amps installed? Or will experience the same thing?
Thanks again for the info! Much appreciated

What do you think, ttocs. Is there a resister he (assume you are a he, sorry if incorrect) can pick up at Radio Shack or something to "convert" speaker to an 8 ohm load? I bet there is a way. Probably would be fine until a new deck is installed as stated.

you can add a resistor to the speaker to get the proper impedence but I do not suggest it. You would need a large one to handle the wattage of even a small amp and it will just burn power in the form of heat. Too much heat from too much power and you will let the magik smoke out. I am willing to bet that the factory subs are a low impedence and wired in series, meaning both would quit if one was disconnected. If that is the case you might if we could confirm this we could wire the new speakers in parallel to get the impedence needed. I would not know where to look to find this....
At this point if you change your deck as I said you can wire the deck to power the tweeters and the door speakers(use capacitors as inline high pass x-overs to protect the tweets), and the factory amps to power the remaining subs in the back. If you want to use a deck that has subwoofer outputs that you can vary independently from the master volume(great for tuning makes (sound)tweekers like me happy!) you will need to add a line driver as I explained. I need to add picks of it to my page as I get alot of questions about it. It is basically a low level amp that boosts the voltage of the signal for the factory amps. It is not a big deal, $20 for a cheap one and all it nees is power, input and output. With alla new deck(<$175 now)the remaining factory speakers and your new ones you will have a descent sounding system to start. I say start as projects are never finished, just sold........

I guess I'll start saving for a new deck! I'll just keep the bass and volume down till that time comes.... I'd much rather listen to my exhaust anyway!
Thank alot for the feedback.... very much appreciated!

An interesting outcome!
Today I was installing a direct switch wired AC plug for my XM unit...... I like having it come on when the Stereo does VS having it on at all times through the Cig lighter! Anyhow, I had to remove the 460 Deck to find a decent place to install the AC plug! (some whereout of sight) While having the Deck unplugged it reset it self! After plugging it back in and I noticed that now the speakers do not cut out when the volume or bass is up!
I wonder if resetting it was the solution? Anyhow... just thought I'd share this and see what others think!
