Looking for some front speakers
Just looking at some suggestions on replacing the front speakers with some components.. Really wanting to stick with the 5x7 just for ease of install and not really looking for anything blaring loud.. Will be looking into an amp as well.. Not trying to spend a small fortune either, havn't decided on a price yet though..
It is super easy to use 6.5 or 5.25 comps in a 5x7 / 6x8 location. I did it for my wife's old car and it is veyr simple.
You could get a pair of comps, an amp, and wiring, for under $200 that will sound great! There are a variety of good deals in both sizes. 5.25 would be a little easier to install.
What is your total budget?

5 x 7's sound just as good as 6.5's, probably better then 5.25's.

I could probably swing the $200.. I've already got an amp for the fronts that I am probably going to try and get rid of.. I don't think it's all that great..http://www.crutchfield.com/S-rZx8YUS...mp;search=t220

A speaker moves along an axial plane. The force for the motion is exerted on the center of the cone. The forces holding the cone in place are around the entire cone exerting a constant force around the a circular cone. The issue with oval speakers is that the force from the surround on the speaker is not evenly dispersed around the speaker. This causes small changes in geometry in the cone due to stress and strain that cause certain frequencies to be distorted. The frequency depends on the force and areas where the stress distorts the cone. Therefore, round speakers sound better then oval speakers.
However, when used as a midbass (not midrange like a comp set) the ovalshape can allow for more cone area and therefore more bass.
I will notrun anything then a round speakers, if you want 5x7 comps thats great, but you need to consider that with a 6.5 inch comp set, you can fitthe midrange and tweeter in the same opening. The tweeter and woofer being less then 3 inches apart greatly improves staging and elminiates the need for any attenuation from different speaker heights.
Alright, so what would you suggest.. Guess I'm going to have to look into either 5x7 or the 6.5"..
I've already got everything wired since I do have an amp already hooked up to the stockers.. SO wiring will not be needed.. so I say $200-$250 for front set+amp.

I have a post in the boston SX60 thread that outlines a great setup for under $250!
CDT Comps $100
Profile Amp $75
wal mart wiring $50 ( 4 guage to allow for upgrade)
The links are in that other thread.
