Dialing in amp
Hey guys, curious as to what settings my amp should be set at. I have a sony xplod xmd9001gtr. all the dials and switches on it i have left the way it came but wondering if there is a better way for it to be set up. the only one that i have messed with is whatever turns up the volume of the sub)
The first thing I do is turn off bass boost. It is a distortion machine.
Next set your low pass filter to around 100-150 hz.
Setting up the gain (what controls how loud it is) is a different type of operation. Most pros use an oscope or mulitmeter and match the gains to produce the required ac output voltage with the associated resistance of the speaker to match a power output with the rms rating of the speakers.
If you don't have a clue about what I just said, Turn your gain all the way down, turn the stereo as loud as you will listen to is, then turn up the gain until it starts to sound distorted, then turn it down a little.

alright. what about the two switches. there is one that says 0db, 12db, and 24db. There is also something that talks about boosting levels at 40hz. is that the bass boost you are talking about?
I just read the manual and there is a db adjustment for both the input level and bass boost. Not the crossover.
Set the level switch to off and turn the bass boost to 0. Turn the subsonic filter to halfway inbetween 0 and 20.
Set thelow pass filter to a little over100.
