I must have missed this memo..............

I gave the reason behind the stability a couple weeks ago. I'm glad someone new seems to have knowledge also.

I really didn't want to search all of my posts over the last two weeks to find it. Basically, stress and strains cause deformation. A round shape disperses this equally around the diameter of the speaker. An oval speaker disperses this strain unevenly given its shape and therefore will deform unequally causing sound waves to cancel, resonate, andetc.

With enough power and enough enviroment control, you would be able to hear the difference.

I don't buy it to be honest. Are you saying that if I put you infront of a blind test with an oval and a round speaker of similar properties that you could tell which is which?

Didn't think so.

Given the correct environmental control, power, and speaker characteritics, maybe.

Why test the physics though. I have heard plenty of round and oval speakers I disliked. I have heardvery few oval speakers that sound good to me.As a midbass driver great, but for anything else, I'll pass.

I don't understand why you would give advise that one is better then the other when you cannot hear the difference? or maybe cannot hear the difference...

who can?

Then buy your damn oval speakers. I have had both 6x9's and 6.5's of the same brand and model (older pioneer with the shiny white cone). Although the 6x9's had better bass, there was a distict difference in the quality of the midrange. I heard the difference between the shapes and haven't run an oval speaker since.

So my subjective opinion and the physics tell me it sounds better, I guess to me it does.

Jesse just got from an SQ comp, I wonder how many cars he saw running oval speakers in front stage or in the rear full range. I would guess not any that did well.

They make 6x9 subs and I have even considered buying some to save trunk room in the wife's bimmer, but I will never run an oval speaker full range after my subjective experience.

I heard the difference, but I will not say that everyone will or that my results could be replicated. It was my subjective opinion that the midrange in the by 9's was not as clear, and with the dynamics and strengh of materials I knew it was game over for me.
