ordered me up some Bostons
Well I just ordered some speakers, I bought the Boston Acoustics SL60 component set from here
It ended up being around 160 bucks which I think isn't too bad considering crutchfield sells the SX series for $250 which is a step down.. Electronics Bonanza's prices are really awesome, you guys should check them out.
I went to order the SX's for $110, and decided aw hell.. i'll regret it later so just bought the SL's.
I'm buying a sony XM-554ZR amp off of a friend for 60 bucks that I think will work fine for them, plus i'll have a 4 chanel amp to hook to rear speakers when I buy some.

Now I need some wiring advice. I currently have a Optima red top up front and a kicker KX600.1 amp in the trunk, the power wire I have is really not big enough for the amp I have, much less big enough for the kicker plus the sony amp I plan to buy.
So, I'm thinking about moving the battery to the trunk, which is something i've wanted to do for a while anyway. I'd mount both amps on the backside of the back seat and run 2 gauge wire to an old cap I have then split it off from there to each amp.
any better ideas or advice on wiring this ?

Thoseamps would work fine with 4 or 2 guage primary power wire. When running mulitple maps it is better to run the larger wire the longest lengh possible before splitting into smaller diameters.
Honestly, I wouldn' t run rears. I would bridge the 4 channel your getting to make sure those bostons are getting plenty of power.
Congrats on the purchase and keep us updated on the install!

No rears? really? I think i'll just leave my stock rears hooked up for now directly to the head unit ( pioneer deh -p8400mp)
and run rca's to the amp for the fronts. If I buy the sony amp I guess I will bridge it as I'd really like to push the bostons to their full potential... I have another friend with a bigger old 2 channel amp that I may use instead of the sony, he only wants like 30 bucks for it, I'll get more info on what it is exactly. So far this is what i'm working with:
-Pioneer DEH-P8400mp head unit
-Boston SL60 component set
-buying some kind of amp for bostons
-Kicker KX600.1 amp for subs
-(2) Kicker 8 inch L5 solobarics in ported truck enclosures (they was in a reg cab tacoma, hit 136.4 db with mic hanging from mirror)
-Red top optima
-old shiney cap with led numbers ( i'll be using this as a distribution point for the amps)

It was like this, untill I sold 2 of the subs..

As you can see.. its not a very clean install... everything was just kinda layed in there when I bought my car and I never made time to do it right. I plan to redo everything..
Any other ideas?
I'll make pics of everything as it happens
If your really bent on putting the battery in the back, I would use around 2 guage. ( I have 1/0 in my truck with the battery in he back.)
Get the specs and model number for that old 2 channel. Some of those old amps are diamonds in the rough!
As for the rears, some is ok, but you want to make sure you are only playing midrange frequencies.
I have a pathfinder with much larger interior volume then your mustang. I have a set of front comps and a sub in the rear. It is more then enough volume to fill my cabin and the rear passengers can hear the full range sound.

running 2 awg to your amps will not do any good if you have 4 awg going from your alt to your frame/batt/ect....
Keep the rears if you like them, I would....

I wanted to do something like this.. using some mach covers replacing the mach logo with a boston logo

But i'm also thinkin of fiberglassing somethin up like this:

First off, if the battery is in the trunk and 4 guage runs to it that is ok. If he runs 2 gauge to his amps from the battery that is even better then if he just ran 4 guage. The battery is what delviers the current and voltage. The larger the wire from the battery to the amps the better. With a larger power wire you can deliver more power with less resistance. Even if you have a 4 guage wire from your alt to your battery, a 2 guage power wire can delvier more power to your amps then a 4 guage (If the amp needs the power). Your alt charges your battery and the battery acts like a sink. If you are filling it up at a constant rate, you can still have peaks of output that exceed the input.
Easter, you have no expereince in car audio besides kicker subs and crappy 6x8's. You wouldn't know "full" sound if it slapped you in the face. I would doubt that you have ever heard a properly powered and setup stereo, and that you think yours is a top notch system. Your probilibly runnig your rears full range which shows your ignorance on the matter.

any other ideas on the components up front.... any cool thoughts?
Preal.... Also I'm second guessing buying this sony amp.
If its a 4 channel sony amp rated at 55 watts @ 4ohms rms, I can hook it up bridged as 2 channels of say 100 watts er so right? If not I dont think i'm buying it. If I do, do I just run say the left rear and front left channel together and run it straight to the left speaker.. and this will be 4 ohms? and safe on the speaker with the amp gain turned about 3/4 ways up? I just don't want to be dissapointed because I chose to not spend an extra dollar or 2
