Has anyone done this!?
My 07 GT with Shaker 500 has a factory Sirius satelliteradio installed. I want to switch to a Clarion H/U that is "satellite radio ready". The H/U is offered through Crutchfield and comes with the wiring harness and install kit. In talking with the Crutchfield sales person he said I need to buy a Sirius Tuner specifically designed to interface with the Clarion unit. Can't I simply install the new Clarion H/U with the supplied wiring harness adapter and have the already installed Sirius satellite work? Or do I really need to install the tuner that is shown for the Clarion H/U? I was hoping to just install the new H/U and have the Sirius work without installing anything else.
Thanks in advance

I can't help you, but this is something that I'll be dealing with pretty soon, too.
I just chimed in because one potential problem you'll have is that each satellite radio unit is unique. If you're still on the 6 month free subscription, then you might have trouble getting that transferred to a new receiver.
Like I said, I haven't spent a lot of time on this, so I don't know. Also, if you're out of the free subscription anyway, then moot point. I just thought I'd bring it up as a question to ask somebody who knows more than me.
Good luck! Let me know how it turns out. I'd just be happy if I could use the factory satellite antenna (which I suspect I can).

My Sirius has been shutting off intermitantly since new. H/U checked out fine, even replaced with new unit. Still does it. Must be between the antenna mast and the Sirius tuner.
I am pretty much convinced I will go with a Clarion H/U. I prefer XM's programming over Sirius for what I listen to (I have both and am looking to drop one subscription). I should THINK I would be able to use the Sirius antenna...
I know the door subs have separate amps. Are the rear deck speakers and the 5 x 7 door speakers amp'd through the H/U or through an outboard amp? The Clarion H/U I am looking at going to lists 20 watts RMS and 50 watts peak per channel. Figure that would be enough to drive those factory speakers.

Try the installer forum on carsound.com for the factory antenna. There use to be alot of good info there not long ago.
Yes you will need a clarion sirius unit to go with the new dash unit.
