Help With Amp/Sub After Install
Hey guys, i had my kicker 200.2 amp with my kicker comp vr 12" sub installed yesterday and it is hooked to the factory mach 460 headunit via the rear speakers of course, but it does just fine with the gain and boost on the amp all the way down but when i turn it up to get some more power out of it it goes into protect after a few hits, stays in protect mode for maybe 8 secs and then hits a little more then does it over and over again, like right now i have the bass/gain all the way down and i can turn the headunit up all the way and it wont kick off but its just not pumpin hard.
The guy i got the amp from said he went inside and bridged it internally, he says he has always done that, the guy is a buddy so i know he wouldnt rip me off you know, but maybe the way they have the sub wired inside the box could be the problem?they took the left side 2 hook ups on the sub and made it 1 wire and did the same with the right side, should i modify their hookups or just get a new amp?

the box sounds like it is wired parallel but we need the model number of the sub to know if it is bridged too low.
I also agree that he needs to clarify what he did to modify it... Sounds scary and fishy at the same time.

Yep,, sounds like he just ran it parrallel.,,, The subs need to be wired differently.. Do me a favor and tell me how the speaker lines are ran into the amp and I will tell you how to fix it.. What is happening, is your speakers are not giving enough resistance to the amp, so the amp just thinks that its basically hooked up to itself.. I know it sounds weird, but the speakers are dual voice coil and probably 4 ohm coils, so hooking them the way he did made it a 2 ohm speaker,, .. anyway,, just unhook he speakers and then run the wire from the positive of the amp to the positive of the bottom speaker input, then from the negative side of that same speaker terminal to the positive of the other coils terminal then the negative of that terminal to the negative on the amp... that will fix the problem...
If the speaker is a Dual 2 ohm voice coil then you will be running at 4 ohms,, which is good for that amp.. if it is a dual 4 ohm then you will be running at 8 ohms which is also good for the amp,, but not as powerfull..
If you had a dual 2 ohm voice coil speaker with the way he hooked it up it made your speaker a 1 ohm speaker and that was not good for the amp. Hook it up and let me know.. its easy as hell just ask.. pm me if you need to..

hey guys ... i tried to switch how it was wired into the amp, never took the sub out of the box, i bought a rockford 500.2 and changed the amp out, hooked up the sub to 1 side of amp, didnt try to bridge or anything, i think the amp is too strong for the sub
