buid a sub for shaker 500
Hi all.
I wanted to build a small sub to put into the trunk of my 06 Gt. I was thinking about a single 10" woofer. I don't need a lot of boom, but more of a clean tight bass sound. The guy at Myer Emco said it would make a huge difference in conjunction with a mono amp. I built a top notch home theater system myself but have never done anything with car audio. I'll replace the hu later this year but I can build the sub in the meantime. I couldn't find anything using the search engine. Anyone have any pics or instructions?
thanks!

Here's a home theater speaker I built...not the drivers, but the crossover, cabinent, grill, etc...
I think I have the car sub figured out.

I acutally started designing a sub using ProE 2001, but when my school work caught up with me senior year I quit.
If you have expereince with home audio you know that the foundation for quality music is the full range sound, not the 50 hz a sub plays.
If your looking for better car audio and are into high fi, the first upgrade would be to get some front comps, an amp for them, and a HU to send them a clean signal.
A medium quality setup can run around $500 and I might even throw a sub in the equation.
A great starting point would be a budget, and what you plan on getting out of your money.(Overall SQ or just bass)

I'm going to agree with you. I started to look at the Pioneer in dash dvd playerwith navigation. I'll have to wait until after taxes (I'm getting killed this year) and then I'll start replacing the speakers. I was going the sub route for the fun of building and that I have enough reward points to get a decent mono amp. I'll use them towards a new HU.
I paid more in taxes myself june to end of year then both my wife and I paid the first 6 months of the year. Thats what happens when you start to make decent money.
If you have enough rewards points for a mono sub amp, I would spend that on a 2 channel. You can go the sub route or the comp route with a 2 channel and I think you will be more satisified with a good pair of comps then adding a sub. The HU is the signal source, so the clearer the better.
