Why does it matter what it sounds like outside of the car? Do you often sit outside your car and listen to your music?

$300 is enough for a budget system... $100 for the sub, $100 for the amp, $40 for wiring and $60 for a box (assuming you are getting a fre-fabbed box). But with a little more money, you can do so much better.

I'll even start around $200....

Every setup assumes a $20 walmart install kit and a $40 for box construction materials. The only way to optimize your install is to build your own box. A prefab can be purchased for around $40, and building it yourself is much cheaper.

1. http://woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuse...roduct_ID=3170500 watts rms, $100
and http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/2840350 watts rms output, $70

Total with wiring: $230

2. http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...products_id=31400watts rms, $125
and http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/2212400 watts rms output, $100

Total with wiring $285

3. http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=3068, 400 watts rms, $135
and http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/4352$115

Total with wiring: $310

There are a number of other setups I could put together, but this gives you the idea.

I like #2. eD is some good stuff. And since you said you didn't want it to weigh much, its a light-weight sub. My buddy has a Profile amp powering 2 subs, its a nice cheap amp that will put out around what its rated.

Dear god, please get a new head unit. If you don't, give it 6 months until your 6 disc craps out, then buy a new head unit.

P.S. My vote is for #2.
