reversed subs
What do you mean by reversed sub? You mean put the face into the box with the back end sitting outside the box?
It can be done for a number of reasons, depends on the design of the enclosure and the speaker itself. Not all speakers work with that setup.

You can run any sub inverted. It is just like reversing the phase of the terminals. You just change the direction the cone travels, but it still produces sound. It is really just a bling thing. You also have to make sure your box is very tight to the floor, you're creating quite a moment on the box front.
you do get a little more space out of the enclosure since the magnet and motor assembly is outside of the box.
it is different....
I did a system in a car with 4 12's, 2 regular and 2 inverted just to be different. It was the loudest car I ever put together.....

All things being equal its the same damn thing. The piston moves one way or the other. Did you make up for the change in internal airspace between the 4 woofers so they would all produce the same frequency in the samemanner?
You know I love you ttocs, but I know you did it for looks. High school girls dig the inverted subs.
Simply put, it's cosmetic.
You don't see SQ champs with their drivers reverse mounted, nor do you see SPL champs doing it either.
You see people in car shows do it all the time.
So how does that play out for you?

the boxes were close but were not exact. There was a small difference that we noticed that there was not nearly enough bass for 4 12" PG X-max 12's hooked up to 2 of PG's biggest amps... We scratches our heads for a second before we realized that we needed to obviously invert 2 of the speaker wires to 2 of the subs. HOLY HECK THERE WAS ALOTTA BASS THEN....
With 2 of the subs out of phase from the other two if the boxes were made perfectly the same there should have been absolutly NO bass no matter how hard they worked. The fact that the boxes were slightly different allowed one set to play a little louder then the other over some freq's but there was still very little bass. The guy was a total bass head and funny enough was on house arrest for a month after we finished the install. he came back to the shop 2 months later complaining his trunk would not open and sure enough the bass had rattled it so hard that it would not open with the key, by remote or with the lever... ya get what ya pay for.

OK smarty pants, in the same internal box size it will be louder due to a larger internal air space. But you also have less cone surface area, therefore less air moving. So it is more then likely a wash between the two.
