Default Non-Mach Amp Failure

I have a '94 GT with a non mach system. I have replaced the speakers and the head unit and the front drivers side speaker keeps going out. I have put the stock head unit back in and the stock speakers and drove around for a few days and I have the same problem with stock and after market. The drivers side speaker goes out and to get it back on I have to crank up the volume, after that it is fine till it decides to go out again, then i crank it up again. The only thing I can think of it the amp having problems. Has anyone else had similar problems?

you are having the same amp problem on 2 different decks? Is there a seperate amp driving the speaker?

no, same factory amp, same problem. just 2 different head units, the stock and the aftermarket. And two different speakers, stock and aftermarket.

Perhaps I am wrong. My understanding is that even the non-mach systems had amps or atleast a amp. Similar to the late foxbodys where it was under the passenger seat.

nope, if it does not say mach on there then it is a standard for jbl system with the amp in the deck. Sounds like your speaker is probably going bad then. you could check it with a meter but if you had the same problem with 2 different sources it points to the speaker.

Two different speakers too. Which only leaves the wiring. The stock head unit says sony and the speaker plug is the black square, not the flat rectangle. But no tweeters. This cars audio system goes against everything I though I knew about mustang sounds systems.....

I would be looking at the wiring then. There must be a bad connection in there some where.
