Default Wiring Cigarette Lighter

Hey I was just wondering if someone could put me through the process of wiring my cigarette lighter by my shifter, so that it is on when the car is on and off when off. Thanks for all your help.

there are two wires that go to your lighter. The ground is on the outside(looking from the back) and the hot wire is inthe middle. You will need to wire the middle wire to a +12v switched wire. You can find one behind the radio or at the fuse box. What are you going to plug into it?

My first guess would be a radar detector, and if that's the case you can get a hardwire kit and wire it directly so you don't have to even plug it into the cigarette lighter. Really no matter what it is, I'd suggest wiring it directly unless it's something you want to be able to take out of the car frequently.

Well I was going to wire 4 way one for a light that goes behind the dash, eventually radar, and cell charger.

Ahh, well I think that I'd wire the light and radar directly into the car's wiring, then leave the cigarette lighter for the cell charger. That's just me though.

And I can just wire them the same place? Sorry I'm kinda new to it and I know it's very basic.

It depends, but probably yes. Anything that plugs into a cigarette lighter is going to use 12v just like almost everything else in your car. No matter how much you have running off of one wire, it's always going to be 12v. The thing you have to worry about is amperage. To do the job properly, you will want to get a meter and see how many amps you're getting on the wire you want to use for your 12v, then check the different components you want to power with it and see how many amps they want to run and make sure you have enough. I would guess that you can probably run a small light and radar off a majority of 12v lines in your car, but don't quote me on that. I don't know how much power is running through them all.
