Pioneer AVIC-D3 and 07 GT
hey all, i just got the avic-d3 installed into my new 07 GT and i like it alot so far (only use my ipod so the lack of a cd changer doesent effect me)
there is a problem I have been having with it however, i read that when I turn my lights on the screen should dim to nighttime dimness automatically and when I turn my lights on nothing happens. I took my car back to the guy that installed it and he said that my car doesent have the wire that allows the avic-d3 to connect to my headlights.
the head unit also wont manually switch to nighttime dimness when i go into the settings, which leads me to beileve that he sold me a broken head unit.
has anyone else been able to get the avic-d3 connected and working with the headlights? thanks so much

The wire that contols this is orange with a black stripe I believe. Depending on how much you trust your installer...
Some installer at best buy told me he never installed it because it was worth the 4 seconds to do it, which just tells you how lazy BB installers are.
But maybe it's true, maybe it doesn't have a dimmer control on it. I would check the owners manual or another installer. Who installed it just out of curiosity?

ill definetly check the owners manual of my car, i cant believe i didnt think to do that
he is connected to the dealership that i bought my car from, his "company" name is Ardilla Detailing
they installed a remote start into my car as well and that works flawlessley so i guess i semi trust him, but obviously not enough since i wanted to see if anyone else with the 07 gt has this problem.
thanks for your help

I would look at the manual for the Pioneer unit, see if it has a dimmer contol wire, every unit I have ever had has had one so I am assuming but...
And sometimes like I said they just dont hook it up because usually no-one mentions it, but since you did, it's possible he may just be telling you you cant do it to save him an hour by taking your dash back apart and fixing it, rather than just saying "Hey, you cant do it"
I have seen it happen, just people taking the easy way out...

thats what i think he is doing, and i thought you mean my car's manual, im slow sometimes sorry.
i actually did read the manual for the head unit and there are wires that connect to the headlights, it actually says in the book that the wires should be orange, and i told that to the guy and thats when he told me that my car didnt have the orange wires, i wish i knew someone else that could do this for me cause this is rediculous

It doesn't hook up directly to your headlights...
It runs to the harness that connects to your factory and also your new aftermarket cd player, if your factory one did it... This one should too. Just go in and say "Hey, listen this headunit is supposed to do this and I know it, so save yourself a loyal customer and make this happen for me. I know it's alot of work for one little thing, but I paid you to do this right, I shouldn't even be back here for a second time about this in the first place"

no i realize it doesent hook up directly to the headlights i meant the orange wire
regardless (im not very smart when it comes to the inner working of cars) now that I know it SHOULD be able to work in unision with the headlights ill do what you suggested. thanks

Does anybody know if I got this installed at Circuit City or Best Buy, would they connect it for me? I'm going to buy the metra pioneer radio harness, and metra ford vehicle wiring harness along with the Unit. With those two things, should they be able to hook up the lights properly? I really want this feature and I'm scared theyre going to not do it. Also does anyone know, to bypass it, do you have to remove the unit from your dash? Or are the wires visible under where your steering wheel is? I dont want to have to take the Navigation system out of the dash to do the bypass. Ugh Im so confused does anyone know?
