Damn 4ohm speakers!
Appearantly, the guy who owned my '02 GT before me,put in an Alpine headunit, then smoked a f*ckload of crack cocaine and put 4ohm speakers in it,and bypassed the amps. Does anyone know how i can drop the 4ohm aftermarket to 2ohm,so they won't cut out when hooked up to the amps? or if i can just get a stock system somewhere? they're polk audio speakers - pretty expensive from what i've seen.
What exactly is the problem? Many aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm. Are these door speakers? Alpine head units amplifiers are rated to drive a 4 ohm load. And pretty much every aftermarket amp is designed for a 4 ohm load also.
so the speakers are still stock, but the head unit is the alpine (what I understood from your first post). Just want to make sure I am following correctly. Or are the speakers aftermarket as well (which looks like what you are saying in your second post). If we can get to the root cause we should be able to find a solution. With systems like the mach or the new shaker, often times if you are going to replace the deck, you need to do the speakers as well. It can be difficult to blend effectively the factory with the aftermarket.
you do not want to use the stock amp with any speakers except the stock speakers. And honestly you really don't want to use the stock amp except to drive the subs. Check out page 2 of my sig

No no no,it has aftermarket speakers, the stock speakers are 2ohm,that's what i need.
Stock mach 460 is fine with me,the only reason this is bothering me is because i have ZERO bass.

Then why are you changing speakers instead of getting a sub?
The limiting factor in bass response is the surface area of the woofer and a 6.5 inch coax is not going to produce much bass. Ttocs is the resident master installer, his advice really should be taken. If you already have an aftermarket HU why not go ahead and upgrade the speakers.

you shouldn't even think about DOWN-grading the speakers so that you can use the factory amps. what you should do FIRST, is tear the factory amps out, as they are dead-weight now since they are bypassed. then take out the rear speakers because you don't need them, and in a convertible they are especially useless since there is so much more noise in the car. then get yourself a nice 2-channel amp to power the front speakers. adjust everything to your liking, and if you still need more bass, add a sub and another mono amp to power the sub.
