Default My subs got me down

Just thought I would share....I traded in the civic---yay! for a 04 Ram. The only audio components that I really wanted to salvage were the subs, boxes, amp and cap. The only problem is that there is pretty much no way that the boxes and subs will squeeze into the truck. I refuse to put these subs back into a prefab'd or sealed box as I built these boxes from the specs on the Diamond webpage and they make a considerable difference. I could put them into my wifes Mustang, but I don't think she really wants them. So, they just sit in the bedroom until they are brought back to life, who know's when that will be. Once again... Whomp whomp whomp wahhhhhhh.

You could always build a new box to fit behind the seats or under the rears if you have an extended cab.

I had thought about that, I would have to do some type of fiberglass enclosure. Its a regular cab so my options are slim. The only thing that bothers me is the difference in sound. I first had them in a custom sealed enclosure at 1.75cf per driver and then I built those boxes in the pictures which are tuned to 32hz in a snail shell configuration and the difference in sound was unbelievable. I feel like I would be doing the subs a disservice by putting them in anything other than those. I am at a loss.

I must see the design pics if those are turely snail shell boxes.

A simpleported enclosure will make about any woofer louder.

How about 4 SQ10 slimlines? May not boom like those those, but they'll hold their own for a shallow mount $70 woofer...

OP, you DO know that having a regular cab pickup allots you better space than having a extended cab right? you have a LOT of room for enclosures behind the seat (or you should based on the last time i saw the new Ram regular cab). of course you won't be able to use your current enclosures, but you could redesign the shapes so that two ported boxes could fit (one behind each seat with the subs firing up). another option if you have the bucket seats and floor console, is to rip out the center console and build a new one that flows all the way to the rear of the cab with the two subs in the center console. i am a huge car guy, and i'm in to EVERYthing. i used to subscribe to Truckin' and Street Trucks magazines, so i have an eye for custom fabrication especially with trucks. you could build a new center console completely from scratch and even cut-up the stock one to re-use the cupholders and storage bins and what-not to make it look somewhat stock. if you have the bucket seats, i think that is your best bet. especially to have the space to have two ported boxes. or you could always sell off one of the subs. then still build a new center console and either have the sub firing up or have it inverted firing down.

Also, not what I would be doing unless I wanted it hidden and had the money for it, JL Stealth box. For alot of trucks they have "pre-fab" enclosures that will actually be replaced by your center console, and you generally still have your cupholders and stuff.

No one will even know you have a sub until you hear the boom from the 13W3...

Hey, thanks for the input. I do think that when the time comes I will probably do some type of custom deal, probably fiberglass but I would love to have the tuned ported. Thats funny you mention the ram regular cabs, it is actually very surprising how much room there is behind the seats. When I got it, I was thinkin that the boxes would slide right in. I was going to have them firing upward behind each of the seats. When I pulled out the plastic tray behind the seats I was given a little surprise with a 3" by 3" ledge just at the rear of the floor. That damn ledge completely botched my plans for those boxes to go in. Anyhow, the regular cab would be a sweet bass-mobile so hopefully I'll get em in soon. The seats are 40-20-40, so they are buckets with a stationary front console. I do like the idea of just ripping that whole thing out and doing a custom enclosure all the way to the back. I am doing the exhaust now so the system will have to wait a little bit.
