I just recently purchased a 2000 gt andthen bought a new aftermarket tach with a shift light for up at my local dragway, problem is the instructionsare far from perfect. I understand where the wires get hooked to, but I don't know where to begin when it comes to getting wires to their respective places...(like from the interior through the firewall)...thanks to anyone who replies, all input is appreciated.

 

you'll have to get a tach driver. its a adapter for a coil pack ignition system... purty sure. other then that its 12+constant, 12+, neg, and sending unit, then their should be a wire that goes to the headlights if its backlit or not. i'd like to know too. i'm goin to get one soon.

I did see one guy up at the ford nationals at Carlisle, PA who ran his wires between where the dash meets the radio and a/c stuff. I'm not sure if that is easy or not. I've also been told to run it under along the steering column, but I dunno.

 

I don't know how much this will help, but here it goes.

I just bought a 2001 GT. The previous owner had a tach mounted on the right side of the dash. It was a little in the way of my vision, so I cut all the wires and removed the tach. Now this weekend I think I might mount it on the left side out of the way.

Anyway, my 2001 does not have a Tach Driver, it was just 4 wires.

Red: +12 Volt
Black: Ground
White: Behind the dash to dim with the lights
Green: Runs across the dash to the Right kick panel. (My guess was to the computer?)

I didn't find any wires going through the firewall.

Well that's interesting, and may prove to be very helpful...do you remember exactly where these wires in the car came from? and were the wire colors given the ones found coming from the car? Thanks again for the help everyone.
