Default 2000 GT with Mach

Just sold my 03 V6, and thusly, had to take out my entire system (PITA). Every piece is in my sig.

Now, the 2000 GT I'm getting has the Mach system (did they have 460 that year? Because its the one without the subs).

My question is, which wiring harness will I need to hook up my aftermarket head-unit, and I'll be replacing the speakers in the doors with my Polks, so any of the OEM amps for the speakers will get bypassed anyway.

My other question is, on my sixxer, I mounted the Polk tweeters on the sail panels, but the Mach speakers are there now, where would be a good place to mount them? I liked them high up, like when they were on the sail panels, I think its much louder and sounds much better.

P.S. Listening to my stock audio system, how the HELL could I tolerate that? BLEGH.

Yeah it's the Mach 460 - Zero Subs.
Check out an Online retailer to find out which harness you'll need, I like
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-4GfLPXHGDvJ/
Type in the name of your head unit, than select your car.

What I did with the same tweeter issues is, basically put tweeters ontop of tweeters. (My Clarion tweeters mounted ontop of the Mach 460 sail panel s;peakers) Worked pretty well for me, gave me that "Surround Sound" feeling.

Ya, thats kind of what I figured I'd have to do with the tweeters.

For the harness, I don't think Crutchfield has one to bypass the stock amps, since both my speakers and both my subs run off of the amp, I'm not using any stock sound equipment at all.

Same thing with me. Other than the tweeters, my entire system is comprised of Clarion speakers. All my speakers are run off a 3 ch. amp mounted in my trunk.
I'm pretty sure the 460 does'nt even have stock amps, may be wrong though.

the harness shouldnt be THAT much. or i haven't looked at them in a while. and you can take the factory Mach tweeter apart and mount yours behind the little triangular housing. or mount them on the A-pillars.

I believe Crutchfield has the harness I'm looking for, and its not $53, although its still $40 . Oh well.

And I saw some pictures of what the tweeters look like behind the Mach grill. Looks like they pop out quite nicely, ill just disconnect them and tape them somewhere, and try to mount my Polks there.

If all goes well, I can mount them and put the grills back on, and everybody will be "Holy crap! A stock system can do this?"

man you're lucky to upgrade to a GT even if its a couple years older. i do like the newer '01 and up green lighting though. i've always hated the 94-00 split dash and teal lighting. meh not that hard to change.

back to the topic though, at least for my CDTs i just got, they don't recommend putting the tweeter on the sail panels. they say NEVER EVER do it with aftermarket speakers. i don't know how much bearing this has on other brands though. when i first had my current Alpine Type-Rs installed, i had them custom mount them in the factory (non-Mach) location with the woofer mounted above the woofer in a kind of "braxial" arrangement as CDT calls it. both the woofer and tweeter were mounted behind the factory grill. but then the woofer would hit the back of the mount on real bass-heavy tracks, and sometimes my leg would block the sound. so i had them move the tweeters up to the sail-panels (the panel where the stock Mach ones are mounted) and that helped bring the sound up, but then the tweeter was WAY too bright for my tastes and it just messed up the sound altogether. so now i'm not sure where to put my new tweeters because anyone with a mustang knows there aren't too many places to put them since our doors have so many curves.

I actually like the teal better than the green, but thats just me. And finally found out first hand how awesome a stick is.

But anyway, when I had my v6, I had the tweeters on my sails, and with my subs turned most of the way up on the amp, everything seemed balanced to me (I know everyone will have different opinions on SQ and the like), so I was just going to repeat my setup.

Those things could get LOUD up there, sometimes when I was picking my GF up from our house, she would wait outside, she would hear my car before seeing it. I loved it.

ANd besides the sails, I really wouldn't know where to put them, because fiberglass enclosures are just way too much for me.

I do miss two things from my 01+ though. The ceiling web holder thing, was AWESOME for reciepts. And the cup holder adaptor, where you can take the rubber part out and put a bigger drink there, that was pure genius.
