I know that pulling out my single DIN factory Mach 460 head unit and replacing it with a quality single-DIN aftermarket one is pretty simple. But, I have a related question that I can't seem to find in any of the FAQ or historical acticles.

Question: Can the console plastic which contains the opening for a double-DIN head unit in a 2003 Cobra be placed into a '99 version of the same car? I have a '99 and I want to install a double-DIN HU. I'd like to pass on the extra pocket if I can. Looking at pics of the two pieces of plastic, it looks like it could work. I'm wondering if anyone has done it. If someone has, where did you get the replacement plastic? Aside from going to my local Ford dealership, is there any place online that I can order factory interior parts from?

it should work. since the face doesn't have anything to do with what behind it.
there's a guy on ebay that sells interior parts for 99-00 stangs.
