Default Bullitt Sterio

The amps in my sons 2001 bullitt have quit working. It is the sterio that has the built in CD changer, ithink all bullitt's had these. I had it at the dealership, but they could not determine if it was wiring issue or the amps were bod and I was not going to pay for new amps without a definate answer. The amps ( 2 of them ) are located n the package tray area. Was wondering if anyone has had problems with these units?

You have the mach 460 system in your car. My 98gt had the same thing happen to it. There are many options the cheapest is you can buy run speaker wire straight from the stock head unit to each speaker, but then it sounds like crap or you could get and aftermarket head unit and do the same. Since aftermarket head units are more powerful than the stock head unit. I would personally buy an aftermarket head unit and amp and run your speakers of the amp. To get a good decent sound. If you get a head unit go with pioneer, and if you get an amp go with directed electronics, or JL.

JL is a waste of money :/

Unless your son is an audiophile (which i doubt) he'll do fine with mid end stuff... always go mid

i have a complete setup that cost me about $900

4 gauge wiring
4-8 gauge distru block
sony 1600watt (900 rms @ 2ohm) amp
2x 12" sony xplod subwoofers
custom box
sony fx7705x deck (3 sets pre-outs, front, rear, sub 4v)
1 power acoustik 5farad capacitor

the deck powers 2 jbl 4x6's in the front and pioneer 6x9's in the rear (i think..)

this is in my corsica... im putting a complete audiobahn system in my 96 stang, and im sticking with the sony headunit.. great SQ, sexy looking, and relatively cheap compared to other units with less features

but again, it's cheaper to do aftermarket setup (order parts off a decent online store) and set it up yourself.. you'll get more out of it, and it'll be your own son's unique look.

If it's a wiring issue, use a voltmeter and check to see if power is a) getting to your amps then b) to the speakers.

If it doesn't get to the amps, it's a wiring/fuse issue - so check all the fuses on the line. It's all fuses are good, check for disconnected wires.

If power is getting to the amp, check to see if your inputs are connected (since it's stock, it'll probably connect to your rear speakers thru the red/white/black wires and stuff (and not rca cables, as an aftermarket deck would have)

If thats all good, check the speakers. If you don't hear any pink/white noise coming from it, and everything is connected.. it's your amp. Toss the amp, go out and buy a new system that sounds/pounds better from an online merchant - because it'll cost you the same to replace the stock system, vs. an aftermarket one.

Sony head units are cheap, every one i have known to own one has problems with them, skip to much, ect. I have many friends that own, and work at car audio stores they always tell a customer Pioneer or Alpine for a head unit, which is the same price as Sony, and for Subs JL not overrated, if you say that then you obviously no nothing about car audio, you can get to 12 W0's or the new W1v2's anywhere from 175-250 depending where you go and they sound awesome, and last. I would personally go with the W0's if you want a fairly cheap, decent sounding system that will last. Your stock speakers sound decent so keep them if your on a tighter budget.

Are you joking?[&:] JL makes some of the best sounding subs and they have some awesome speakers for mids and highs.

Whatever you do do not get Sony, Sony sucks a**. JL is one of the best but its the most expensive, thats why a lot of people dont buy JL cuz you can buy other brands that are of the same quality but way cheaper, like kicker, clarion, pioneer, mb qart etc. I have a kicker system and its just as, if not better than my friends JL system, you just need to know how to power it. Oh yeah and the speakers are 5x7's in the rear and also in the front but you can fit 6 1/2's in the front if you want more clarity.
