Spec'ing new audio system for 07 GT
Cause the "premium" system SUCKS!
I've already purchased the amplifier to run the whole system.
What I don't know is what size speaks the car has. I have the premium system, so no subs in the lower doors. Only whatever is behind the upper grills. I have Boston Pro series separates in my truck and love them but thinking of going with something else for the car. I'm considering the same setup in the car, with mids in the doors and tweets on the pillars. Just something other than Boston brand.
Can someone tell me what the speaker sizes for the doors and rear in the new S197's are? Also does anyone know of any problems with resonance, etc in the doors of these cars that may require sound matting? And any problems with speaker depth in the doors?

both rear deck and front doors are 6x8's,
but crutchfield will be able to tell you which will fit perfectly, cause not all 6x8's are exact

I think you will be much more satisfied with running some sort of components/seperates.

I did hit crutchfield last night. According to their "outfit my car", it lists 5 1/4' component systems as well as 5x8's. I figured the 5 1/4' seps would go in the front doors/pillars and 5x8's in the rear.
Ihave a Rockford Fosgate Power 1000 amp. It will apply 100 watts x 4 into 2 ohms and 600x1 for my sub/s. So I figured to parrallel wire the front/rear seps and some full-range 5x8's for the rear.
I'm assuming they also have speaker adapter kits that will adapt the 5x8's to 5 1/4, if needed.
Oh yeah and my budget for front seps is around $500. Maybe <$200 for the full ranges in the back. I plan to attenuate those anyway, so it won't matter if they're not as quality pieces as the front.

Honestly, with 6x8's it is really easy to make your own adapter and mount 6.5's. You will be much happier with the midbass response of a 6.5 then a 5.25. I would recommend using a full comp set for the front and ditch the rears. If you must have rears, make sure if you have comps, that you remove the tweeters. The last thing you want is full range rear fill destroying the sound stage your nice front stage creates.

I wish I would have checked back on this forum b4 going and purchasing the rest of my system today. I did purchase everything from woofersetc although I went with a little diff direction than your suggesting. After mucho research (and a talk with my local installer on what will fit), I pulled the trigger on these Morel Dotech Ovation 6 compsfor the front:

I did look HARD at the CDT's but their decent models fell a bit out of my price range for the seps (around $600 for the HD series). And from past experience, I know that you can never go wrong with Morel. They also have a low mounting depth that should help with the doors in these new mustangs.
The rear was another story. I figured I better play it safe and just get some quality coaxs that fit. Decided on these:

I'm just using the Boston'sfor rear fill anyway so I don't think it will be a big deal. My subs will be 2 10' Kicker Solobarics. I've been told by audiophiles that these subs suck and are $hit for sound quality, but I have two of them in my truck and think they kick ***. We'll see. I know I went with the best on the amp and front seps. We'll see how the boston's and kicker subs work out.

IMO, an eq is usually a bandaid for a poor isntall and thats why I don't have an eq in any of my cars.....
I even have my HU set flat.
Those that are truely hardcore will get out a scope and a mic with a couple hundred band eq to make sure frequency response is flat, but I'm not quite that much into SQ yet.
You made a great choice going with morel, they make some very nice audio equipment.

Soundstream products used to be top-notch back when I was really into car audio about 10 years ago. I'm seeingthat things have changed a lot, some of the really goodcompanies have been bought-out by other not so good companies and are now crap. I think SS may be one of them...
