alpine vs kicker
As many of you know i am looking for a sub and amp setup. I currently have infinty comps in the intire car all amped at about 50rms and running off a pioneer hu. it is a 2002 ford mustang coupe, my question now is i found a locate audio shop willing to sell me 1 15' kicker l7 dual 4 ohm or 1 15' dual 4 ohm alipine type r? How do these subs compare. Orginally i was going to do 2 12inch subs but they guy only wants $150 for the alpine or kicker sub? Which is a better sub? And if you recommend a sub please if possible recommend an amp to go with it.
Which is a better sub?
Let me answer your question with another question.
Would you rather listen to a droned voice teach all day, or an obnoxiously loud one?
P.S. not a good loud, like a fart can loud.

let me answer your question straight up...the L7 is a much better sub than the type r. i've ran the L7's in my vehicles since the solobaric first came out and have never had any problems with any of them.
i would like to say sql like meeting in the middle somewhere. Lets say i dont want super loud nosie inwhich every beat sounds the same like a spl system but i also dont need sq where it sounds like a very clear setup id like to meet in the middle i guess but if its one or the other id pick sq.
To answer your question...
Type-R will sound slightly better, L7 is definatly louder, assuming you build a quality enclosure for both that is.
What would I suggest?
Breaking your budget by $25 and buying an eD13Ov2. Sound much. muchbetter than both and get just as loud as the L7, again if you build the proper enclosure. And I know you wont get offered let alone get a 5 year warranty with either of those drivers. You will with the 13O.
And to Hotwheels, You complain alot about Hisss's posts, but it seems the only time you chime in is when he does too. So again if your just going to post to bitch about his posts, please stop wasting peoples time.

If you're going for loud then L7 definitely, if you're going for quality Type R has a slight edge, if it were between a L7 and a Type X then I'd say Type X, but they are pretty expensive. I had two Type Rs in a standard run of the mill box with a 600x2 watt amp and it was nice clean, crisp, and loud, unfortunately some ******** broke into the car I had them in and they were stolen.

1. these ed 130v2 from what i understand they are 12inch round drivers with a 600rms rating ?
2.Can i box two of these in the same air space with a box of about 2.2cu ft ?
3.Also what size amp would be prime for these subs could i use a 1200 watts rms mono block amp?
4. Can anyone supply a wiring diagram or a link?
5.Are these subs one or two ohms stable?

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. 1200 watts at 1 ohm if you buy dual 4 ohm VC subs
4. ED has it on their site
5. Ohm's measure resistance which is an attribute of the voice coil, it has nothing to do with stability. YOu can wire a dual voice coil sub to a variety of loads becuase it has two voice coils , each of which has a certain resistance in the coil.
