First i did not pay full retail for anything and i will never take this out, im not an expert but i have installed multiple systems in my cars and friends cars and for the money i think alpine is one of the best sounding around.

OK just a couple questions:

If you didn'y pay retail, how much did you get each component for then? And why list the retail price?

I'm no expert, and have also installed many systems/components in my and my friends' cars...so?

I used to think the same way about Alpine. I am currently in the process of re-doing my ENTIRE system at the moment. Started out with a CDA-9835 (which I absolutely love btw and it is one of the last GOOD Alpine HU's), MRV-F345 for the speakers, MRD-M1001 for the subs, 6.5 Type-R components, 5x7 Type-R coaxials, and two 10" D2 Type-R subs. Yea when I first got it, I thought it was "teh shizz". Then I lived with it for about 8 months before I was just plain unhappy with it. Speakers were very harsh, no matter how I adjusted the EQ. Subs put out pretty sloppy bass. I ended up fading out my rear speakers altogether because they just messed up the sound.

Then just recently, I picked up some CDT ES-620s. I had planned on replacing just my speakers and subs, and keep the Alpine amps for the time being. Found out my 4channel amp was not bridgeable to a 2channel, so I needed a new amp to power the CDTs. Just picked up my Audison LRX2.4, sold my Alpine sub amp and subs to my co-worker, and am keeping the 4channel for my dad's F-150. Next I am getting an Audison LRX1.1 and I'm still trying to decide on my new subwoofer.

Moral of the story: if you want better than stock..what you are getting IS. Hopefully you didn't pay 50% of retail though, because for the money you could have gotten better. I know how frustrating that sounds and it seems like I am dissing you, but I'm not. I'm just being honest. I came on this site a little over a year ago and was told the same thing by the "veterans" here and got just as pissed. I've learned a lot along the way though, and couldn't be happier with the set-up I am putting in now. My new CDTs cost me $350 (they were normally $500-700, but they were last year's model--->doesn't make a difference to ME as long as they are still un-used) and the Alpines I originally had cost $250 and I DID pay retail. The difference in sound is RIDICULOUS.

Take what you will from this post, but it is by no means intentionally badgering you or your set-up. Just saying that you could have gotten better if you asked us first, and saved money (well, depending on how much you paid for your stuff). And Alpine isn't all it is cracked up to be. You may think I'm full of sh*t, but take it from a previous owner and previous believer. Trust me, they aren't all that. So, good luck with your new stuff. Hope it satisfies you. If it doesn't, and you want to change it later, you know where you can get some good advice the next time around....

I agree COMPLETELY with Laserred. I did the same thing, Full Alpine system type R all around including 2 12" subs. Mind you this was in my 3000gt VR4, but I thought it sounded great. then I got in a friends car with only a set of 6.5 Focal components in front and a single 10 W7 i believe and it just flat amazed me at the sound differance. the highs were clear and bright with none of the over pushed shreik that a lot of tweetes hav, yet the mid bass was clear as a bell. basically the alpines were great, but then the Focals were the "Claritin Clear" from the tv Comercialls.

not trying to be a dick, just pointing out my experiances.
